Man allegedly threatens to douse woman with acid

Denvil Lettsome, a 65-year-old businessman who was reportedly caught on tape threatening to pour acid on a woman, has appeared before the Magistrate’s Court.

Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards granted the Josiah’s Bay resident $35,000 bail.

It is alleged that, on August 31 last year, the complainant Naomi Patterson went for a walk along Josiah’s Bay beach on which Lettsome operates a business.

The court heard that she stopped near a chair directly in front of the Lettsome’s business place.

Lettsome saw the woman with whom he had previous altercations.

He allegedly threw a dead snake at her.

The court heard that he retrieved the snake and threw it at the woman a second time before saying: “I going to f**** pour a gallon of acid on your m#ther s**t.”

The woman recorded him making the threat, and then made a report to the police, who met the accused on the same day.

Lettsome reportedly told the police: “I did not throw any snake on Naomi; I did not touch Naomi; I did not touch Naomi. It was a piece of coconut root (not a snake).”

Recording Played

During a subsequent police interview, law enforcers played the recording of the incident.

At that time, the accused reportedly replied: “That does not sound like my voice. Yes, I did threaten to use acid on her so that she could leave my place.”

Lettsome was subsequently charged.

He is scheduled to return to court on February 16 when he is expected to answer to the charge of using threatening language.
