Man arrested and charged over cannabis possession

The cannabis in question.

A 35-year-old man has been charged after police allegedly found nearly 385 grams of suspected cannabis during a patrol in Baugher’s Bay last week.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said officers were on patrol in the area on Friday, June 19, when they observed Milford Todman Jr exiting a vehicle. According to the police, officers detected a strong odour consistent with cannabis coming from the vehicle, prompting a search.

Police said the search of Todman uncovered a quantity of suspected cannabis. Officers then searched the vehicle and reportedly found a backpack containing additional suspected cannabis.

Todman was arrested at the scene and taken to the Road Town Police Station, where he was later charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply after police determined the total quantity seized was approximately 385 grams.

He was granted $20,000 bail and is scheduled to appear before the Magistrate’s Court on July 30, 2026.

The arrest comes as law enforcement continues to pursue drug-related offences across the Virgin Islands. Earlier this month, two teenagers were arrested after suspected cannabis and related paraphernalia were reportedly discovered at a secondary school on Tortola, renewing concerns about drug use and trafficking within the territory.

Police have also carried out several drug interdiction operations in recent months, including investigations involving allegations of possession with intent to supply and larger-scale trafficking offences. Authorities have repeatedly stated that disrupting the illegal drug trade remains a policing priority.

In its statement announcing the latest charge, the RVIPF renewed its appeal for public assistance in tackling drug-related crime.

“The RVIPF continues to encourage members of the public to provide information that assists law enforcement in keeping communities safe,” the force stated.

Police urged anyone with information concerning any investigation to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9512 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 800-8477 (TIPS).

Treating everyone as if they’re some sort of bad person for smoking weed is crazy when every 5 feet is a bar. Legalize it just like the US did and tax it so you can use said money to further improve the Island.
