A Carrot Bay resident who claimed he ‘found’ and kept a dinghy belonging to Voyage Charters was granted $40,000 signed bail when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards last week.
Nineteen-year-old Jamoi Greenaway is facing charges of taking conveyance without authority.
The unrepresented man will answer to the charge when he returns to court on January 21.
The court heard that on July 10 last year, visitors aboard a catamaran sailed into Cane Garden Bay for dinner and used the dinghy to come ashore.
When they were about to return to their boat, the dinghy was nowhere to be found.
It is alleged that, five days later, an employee of Voyage Charters saw the accused man in a vehicle transporting the said dinghy in the direction of Soper’s Hole on Tortola.
The court heard that the employee stopped the defendant, confronted him, then left with the dinghy.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police and Greenaway was charged.
When questioned by police, the accused allegedly said: “I find it in Frenchman’s Cay.”
