Man killed in early morning shooting

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is reporting yet another murder in the British Virgin Islands.

This latest killing happened today, Saturday, May 27.

“Police can confirm the fatal wounding of a male following a shooting in Manchester early this morning,” the RVIPF stated in a brief statement.

“RVIPF Major Crime Team is leading the investigations,” the police added.

The RVIPF did not release the identity of the victim nor did it state the victim’s age. “No further information can be released at this time,” it said.

BVI News will provide more information as it become available.

  2. Yet another murder. Let's hope they solve this one. says:

Here we go again; yet another reported murder. While details are sketchy, let me say this:

Many of these murders did not have to happen in my opinion. Our government knew of this increasing problem for decades now, and in my view never came up with a comprehensive plan to seriously address gun violence.

Government after government sat back and did nothing of significance to stem the tide of growing gun related crimes.

Be it the NDP or VIP governments, the results was pretty much the same: lip service or much silence.

They got power to make things happen, but failed to use it. It doesn’t help any also when you have allegedly the former Premier somehow involved/associated with people who rans guns.

It’s not the local government to blame solely: it’s all these U.K. appointed governors as well dating back to the O’neal government who have not done their fair share to secure this country.

Everyone of these men sent from the U.K. who have oversight over the security of this country have failed miserably to do their jobs in that regard imo.

The NDP passed some legislation to their credit years back increasing the punishment for the commission of a crime with a gun to 10 years, but in the subsequent years since that law was put in place, I cannot think of a single person who committed a crime with a gun who was given that 10 year sentence…not one.

The government knew gun crime was increasing, but for too long they pretty much turned a blind eye and not use every resource available to address the problem.

For God sakes, at one point, the RVIPF was walking around with battons while the criminals had high powered weapons.

The criminal element was and remains ahead of law enforcement for decades now, and still to this day law enforcement has not been able to catch up to them in a meaningful way. The horse has already bolten the barn.

I consider the government’s overall inaction on this ever present gun violence a dereliction of duty.

The increasing gun violence is not doubt related in most part to narco trafficking, another area of great concern that this country does not have a good handle on.

The government needs to understand that the increasing gun violence and the narco trade go hand in hand.

There needs to be an aggressive comprehensive approach to dealing with both or else this country will slide further and further into criminality where drugs run freely and murders becomes more routine.

Do your jobs government. Do your jobs elected officials. Do your job governor. Speak up; use the power and resources you have available to you to address this growing problem in a meaningful way.

The root of the problem is illicit drugs. Guns go along with that trade. Fix that.

Forget about nature’s little secret which is dirty by now. Forget about BVI love. There is no such thing. Do the job you were either elected or appointed to do. Failure is not an option.

My condolence to the victims family. I reserve no judgment.

Seems simple enough; unfortunately, those killing each other will not be the only persons who will be harmed by their actions. The larger society will suffer along.

These murders are and will continue to affect life as we once knew it. It’s inevitable innocent people will get caught up in the cross fire.

The tourism industry will be affected as other countries will issue travel advisories if things continue to deteriorate which will lead to less visitors.

Decrease revenues from the all important tourism sector will affect us all. Tourist do not like to travel to countries where there is a crime risk. We are not there yet, but that is where we are heading.

Thus, we cannot take a them vs us approach as no one is immune here to this violence…no one. It’s in our collective best interest to stamp out this problem as best we can.

There will always be a determined few to commit crimes, but the country’s laws and law enforcement has to be able to rise to the occasion and address it aggressively.

We are too soft on crime in this country; that needs to change to meet the challenges of the times we live in and the reality on the ground.

Wonder how all these guns get here? What boats arrive where the passengers and their bags don’t even present themselves in person to customs? Have to be an idiot not to see it.

The bright side is that they are exterminating each other. Not fast enough but little by little the bird builds its nest. Problem is that these type leave their DNA behind with Sue Mary and Sally.
Guns are no problem unless they are used. The users are our#1 enemies. We know for certain that the operatives of death and deadly, their origins and their aunts Uncles, the whole tribe and their holding cells. The root of this human cancer, dig it out and flush.
Giving status to our Bkack and demonic destructive tools of destruction is insane.
Bvi must recognize and accept that it is a self destructive mechanism and get real with changes,if it values the pursuit of happiness and success in life for their children, now and future.

Stricter sentences, less leniency and separating these criminals at Balsam Ghut from other “non-violent” criminals are just some of the immediate requirements to stamp on this scourge before it gets worse.

  13. Genip tree says:

These events are sad . The country is getting callous and insensitive now to the killings except if it is immediate family . Several factors are responsible:
    1. The lack of brotherly love for each other
    2. Shoving under the rug what the former Premier might have been actively engaged in
    3. The close family ties amongst BVIslanders protecting “ their own” even when they do wrong
    4. Government leaders afraid to carry out the laws because the guilty person might be a relative
    5. Expatriate come and intermarry into the people families thus creating opening into
BVISLANDERs doorways of wealth, job opportunities , property, homes
Also The men who are promiscuous then bring in bastards expatriate children into their homes and this is the major root cause of the division .
Some expatriates come and break up homes
So it is a myriad of problems.
Now the country is out numbered . This is what is creating Underlying resentment . This saga will never end .

You were making good points until you got to #5. when you start labelling kids “bastards”. No kid is a bastard, and stop this narrative that expats are the problem.

This is a problem of illicit drugs and guns, and an inept government that has failed to address it in a meaningful way.

I am a BV-Islander abroad; Mr Governor – You are responsible for National Security; Police; If you are Shy,Timid or lack the Spine to do what is needed: Execute some DRACONIAN measures to eradicate this GROWING CANCER OF GUN VIOLENCE, then states so clearly; And I at least could consider CANADA as an alternative; Just a few days ago, I heard a report from Japan: a country of 125 million people had ONLY 4-Gun related killings in 2022; The BVI with a population of 30,000 has exceeded Japan is a dreadful decline into the ditch; MAKING THE BVI A GUN FREE ZONE/ZERO TOLERANCE IS ATTAINABLE. First (a) secure assistance from the UK and place BUOYS with sensors and cameras all along the sea coast of Tortola allowing Rapid Response Team to intercept smuggling vessels entering (Travelers with Guns smuggled into other islands and coming into Tortola MUST be subjected to Customs search/Metal detection screen); (b) Gun violators with mandatory sentence of 10 years should be imprisoned in the UK or possibly other bigger Caribbean islands and be deprived of the comfort of Balsam Gut haven here in Tortola where their criminal acts metastasize being home based; (c) Random vehicle searches, several times, Day and Night must take place; This must be kept a SECRET, known to ONLY the Commissioner and 1-2 higher-ups; Make it your business to keep the Criminals uncomfortable (d) Ban ALL motorcycles use at nights; (e) Maintain a DNA data base on ALL convicts; (f) Blanket most of Tortola especially city area, other high congregants areas with High Resolution Cameras; And MORE to come
