Man pleads guilty after drug bust; gets $50K bail

A man accused of drug-dealing was hauled before the Magistrate’s Court on Friday after police found $2,081 worth of marijuana at his residence last week.

James Garraway is charged with possession of 281 grams of marijuana, and possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply to another.

He pleaded guilty to drug possession, but not guilty to possession with intent to supply.

Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste DaBreo subsequently granted the accused BVIslander $50,000 bail.

Allegations are that, minutes after 9am on January 19, police executed a search warrant at Garraway’s residence in Georges, Northside.

Nothing illegal was found in the house.

The police however stumbled upon a tent that stored vehicles and bikes.

While searching one of the vehicles, the law enforcers found a cookie pan under the driver’s seat.

They discovered a large zip-lock bag containing marijuana inside the pan.

It is alleged that the large zip-lock bag also had several smaller bags containing marijuana.

Garraway reportedly told the officers: “I know they were there.”

Police then discovered documents with his name and details in the glove compartment of the said vehicle.

They also discovered a box containing a scale and a number of zip-lock bags, the court heard.

When cautioned about those items, the dread-locked accused reportedly told police: “They are mines.”

He is scheduled to return to court on February 24.
