Many people reluctant to part with a ‘lil $25’

A dated Virgin Islands licence plate.

Opposition Leader Julian Fraser has frowned upon the reluctance of some residents to regularise their license plates with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Fraser suggested that this unwillingness came from a place of unwarranted financial prudence.

While speaking during the budget debates, Fraser singled out the DMV and urged them to ’suck it up’ and get rid of dated ‘PV’ license plates.

However, Fraser pointed out that in order for motorists to get current license plates, there is a fee of $25 attached, which he suggested caused some hesitation.

“I didn’t realise that we had so many people in this community that were so reluctant to part with a li’l $25, so they kept the old plates,” said Fraser who noted that changes to the standard license plate were made years ago.

“That’s a lot of years ago. Suck it up and change those plates,” Fraser urged. “You got vehicles running around the road with ‘PV2622’. We don’t have 26,000 vehicles on the road… Regularise the stuff, get rid of those plates.”

Our legislators don’t have better things to talk about? There is a lot of the people’s business to be done. It’s disrespectful to the people to waste valuable time in their honourable house talking about this drivel.

I keep my PV because I want to. Not because of $25.00. It has sentimental value which Fraser probably doesn’t know about.
DMV was the ones encouraging drivers to keep the PV plate.
I will pay $25.00 to keep mines.
Fraser needs to hush about this!

This is definitely the most important challenge facing the BVI in 2023. We need to give it higher priority. Come on people!

Why haven’t there been no arrest or charge on the Sea Cow’s Bay Harbour Project? Government money was used on private family land. Contracts were given to family members who did not do the work. There was and still remains no public benefit whatsoever for the over 3 million dollars spent there. Many procurement policies were ignored. The audit report it right there. Why nothing has happened on this? Is it selective scapegoating that is being done?

If the plates were changed years ago, why is there a fee attached to get the new ones. It should be that when they come to renew they issue a new plate and you just pay your normal fee to renew.

What is the purpose of changing the plates? Is there new technology attached? What’s wrong with the PV plates? All a plate is is an identifier of that vehicle. What purpose does it serve to change them?

He said “lil $25” because the same one protesting to replace their plates, are the ones carrying around the latest LV and Dior purses and shades. People prioritize what they want too, and sadly many are very materialistic in our little islands. I am still amazed to see so many walking around with 2K-5K purses, and $1500 shoes to walk in the dirt. But, let me mind my business.

Maybe not on the roads but there are probably 26,000 vehicles lying in the bush, along the roads and in peoples yards rotting away making the whole islands look like a junk yard.

The PV plates used to show how long you had been on island 4 digits were over 30 years. the 25000 were about 2008. It was an indication of how long you were here. I was proud of my PV plates.

Tell frazer hush his un intelligence azz. That PU, HU, FU to 1 (one) licence plate number is as dumb as his dead brain cel. What is the purpose of that in such a small community. We usto to remember people licence plate numbers now them thieving numbers and cars in such a small place. There are far more road issues that is of paramount importance to be had. Not all things you see in bigger countries are good for small dot BVI. What about tracking cars via satellite, equipping the DMV via the police station to verify cars over closure of DMV office hrs in cases of emergencies. Now that is vital, talk that

  18. Satellite says:

This 3D politician is likely unaware of the satellite tracking program for the new BVI license plates for land vehicles.

  22. Tax payer says:

What about the $135 for a one year driving license? $120 for physical ,$15 for 1 year. If you are over 70 years old.

  23. Rex FeRaL says:

2622 IS NOT 26,000. LOOKING SOMETHING TO TALK. Find remedy for horse racing.
