Despite recording significant losses due to the passage of two hurricanes and subsequent lootings, local hot spot Marché Bar and Grill is looking to reopen for business tomorrow with the promise of a new and improved experience for customers.

“We are planning to reopen on the 31st – that’s Tuesday – with a soft opening, and we will be making a small menu for the time being,” Head Chef at the Road Town based establishment, Wai Chung-Chen told BVI News Online on Friday.

He said as part of the improved experience, accommodation will be made for customers who may be interested in having a quiet dinner, instead of just catering to those looking for lively entertainment.

“We are trying to change the concept, so we can have a small dining room where persons can come to dine, with soft music.”

While assuring that its more lively customer base can expect the same vibes they once enjoyed prior to the hurricane, Wai Chung-Chen said one of the reasons behind the change is to be able to stay ahead of the competition.

“There is a lot of competition and we want to give people value for their money,” he stated.

Looting loss

Turning to the issue of looting, Wai Chung-Chen revealed that several cases of beer, drinks and other food supplies were removed from the establishment by looters after the passage of Hurricane Irma. He was unable to put a dollar figure to the losses suffered.

While adding that the facility is still being targeted by burglars, he made an appeal for those responsible to stop.

“Up until yesterday, they looted. They broke in and took things. It is sad, we lost so much and we are still losing, it’s not only them that is suffering, everybody is suffering.”

“At least have a little decency. We are working class people, we have problems but we don’t go around looting. I think that’s wrong,” he laments.
