Market Square bus stop coming to fix dangerous highway practice

The government will be constructing a bus shelter to round off construction works at the new market square in Road Town.

The development is aimed at addressing unsafe practises among persons that operate in, and benefit from the local transportation-for-hire sector in the territory’s capital.

Transportation & Works Minister Kye Rymer gave that indication while giving an update on the new market square development which saw the construction of 16 fully outfitted kiosks (vending booths) and accompanying bathroom facilities.

“The final building that will shortly be constructed is the bus shelter. The bus shelter will be the main hub for the collection of passengers to alleviate the dangerous practice of bus operators collecting passengers at the beginning of the Sir Walter Francis dual carriageway,” Minister Rymer told the House of Assembly recently.

“The bus shelter is expected to be 36 feet in length and is estimated to accommodate over 30 persons to ensure that there is a safe sheltered area for passengers,” Rymer added.

The Minister said the market square redevelopment — to include the bus stop — will enhance the town’s overall appeal, aesthetics, and general outlook to the benefit of residents and visitors alike.

Fully outfitted! Monthly rent for new market booths starts at $300

  3. Ok says:

when that market finish, you going see how persons will stop and park/pull up long side the road just now… on the side opposite flow and the other side opposite the round about… that will be a next problem

  4. Theory is great! says:

Great idea in theory but folk will still wait at the side of the highway for a ride. Idiots will still let people exit their vehicles on the dual carriageway to save finding a safe spot to pull over. You can’t fix stupid and you can’t fix laziness.

  7. @OH WELL says:

And the bus drivers act as if they have the right to pull over, pick up and drop at any given time. They have absolutely no regard.
