Married vs single men tug-of-war a crowd favourite at Carrot Bay Fiesta

A clear crowd favourite, the ‘married men versus single men’ tug-of-war competition was one of the main highlights of Friday’s leg of the Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta.

Anchored by Health Minister Carvin Malone, the married men emerged as victors over the single men team in two consecutive rounds to retain bragging rights and the coveted title.

Surrounded by the crowd, the married men took the first round comfortably but struggled in the early moments of the second round before regaining control to win the battle.

Another crowd favourite of Friday’s event was the donkey races, which saw a few neck-and-neck competition on the asphalt surface outside the perimeter of the venue.

Also gaining the full attention of the crowd was the adult bucket race, which Deputy Speaker Neville Smith competed in.

Some of the other events included children races, lime and spoon races of all age categories and bucket races amongst various children age groups.

Chairwoman of the Carrot Bay Culture Fiesta Committee Julieann Smith told BVI News that the cultural activities continue to be well received by the youths.

“The goal is to help keep the culture alive, to help the children to experience what we had growing up. I think annually that’s achieved because the children always look forward to it and to getting the medals and to be a part of races,” Smith stated.

Carrot Bay Festival embraced the Culture. It was clean wholesome fun. No one was walking around dress to the nines trying to get attention, everyone was being themselves. I had a great time. Tug o war and donkey race was the best part for me. Overall, I had a blass.
