Mather repeats calls for sex offenders registry

Opposition legislator and Deputy Speaker Stacy ‘Buddha’ Mather.

Territorial At-Large Representative Stacy ‘Buddha’ Mather has repeated calls for a sex offenders registry in the BVI, warning that known predators are lurking among children in the BVI.

“We need a sex offenders registry in the Virgin Islands,” Mather said in the House of Assembly (HOA) yesterday. “Anguilla has one. Turks [and Caicos] has one. Antigua has one.”

He continued: “Our children need to be protected. There are persons who are coming into our community. There are persons who are being repatriated into our community and they have criminal records.”

The lawmaker said he would not delve deeply into the topic but stated that there are people who are transporting children in buses, “who are doing things, but they’re not registered”.

According to Mather, only some people in the community are aware of the predators lurking around their children, while others remain clueless.

Mather previously expressed concern about the issue, noting that he has seen convicted predators who are now walking freely around children.

Earlier this year, Health Minister Vincent Wheatley promised he would bring the long-delayed Sexual Offenses Bill to the HOA.

Wheatley told lawmakers that substantial efforts were made to draft a sexual offences bill as far back as September of 2019, however, it was not clear why the process has not moved forward significantly since then.

“I’m happy to report that we were recently advised by [the Attorney General’s] Chambers that in drafting a Sexual Offences Bill, seven supporting bills were consequently drafted, and the Ministry should be in receipt of same in the coming weeks for our review,” Wheatley explained.

The Health Minister said the bill will then be taken to stakeholders for feedback before coming to the HOA by the third quarter of this year.

I think that Mather, Dawson and Hodge-Smith are sitting on the Fence contemplating if they should Run again. Although Both Dawson and Hodge-Smith are one Termers along with Corner Woman. The VIP Congress have their Work cut out for them next time. No matter what late Projects they come with in 2027.
The Premier’s action alone will since VIP Ship. More people are planning to go on the Campaign Rostrums to warn the Electorates against a VIP Government even with their Alliance. We don’t Mark to tell us otherwise either… That’s if the VIP Ship don’t run aground before then. SOS, SOS !!! Captain The Ship is Sinking!!! The Premier will stay at the Wheel while ALL the Passengers Drown…Senator Bryon needs to show his Face in BVI and tell the people why He came across last year, 2023 and told the People Piss.

    • @ On the Fence says:

I think you jumped over the fence and hit your head if you think anybody with common sense and know-how will contest BVI elections anytime soon. The only people that are willing to contest are those that seek higher power and a chance to travel and do things they couldn’t do in their private lives. The people here that can actually get things done do not need a government position to travel and enjoy life, they already have that on their own. Nobody will give up their good life to represent a bunch of nasty ungrateful people which is why we have what we have in the HOA. The people who will be elected are those who are constantly on social media ranting and giving lip service but pull their file and they have done nothing of substance. This is what you all will vote for soon and then continue crying. I repeat, nobody with any common sense will risk their good name and character in that charade called BVI HOA. Don’t believe me? Just watch!

In closing, Mather is a waste of time and is not a leader. He may be a good Educator and good at what he has been doing with YEP, but he is far from being a leader. He was the highest vote getter and to date has not really put out anything sensible. I think most of the younger politicians are just high on the power and haven’t gotten out of the clouds as yet.

There are some folks who continue to commit offences even after being released from prison. This is an urgent necessity that should not be overlooked. A sex offender or pedophile does not have a particular look or cover and some have wreaked havoc on all sector of society and genders (boys, girls, women, men, upper and lower classes etc.) There are some minors who have been taken advantage of even in the churches and schools and for some adults and children in their very homes.

Some folks when they migrate have criminal records which are not always obvious to police or border patrol agents. Criminal background checks needs to be done across the board including for heinous crimes and incidences such as sex assault and abuse.

Me Think Mather is on to something. Some of them sitting in the HOA Names might just appear on the List.

  8. Financial offenders first says:

Get the HOA financial interests registry up and running online freely available to all and then you all might sound a little more sincere.

  9. hmm says:

These people need to end up in a database forever as sex offenders. Their victims have to live with the fact that they got raped forever.

    • @Anonymous says:

While the BVI is small there are some of our locals and immigrants who are convicted criminals and have allegedly repeated the same sex offences.

@ Resident, there are some big women walking around with young men/boys as well. The morals of the society is unhinged and there is a need for the spiritual leaders to preach the truth without fear or hindrance. However, the house of God may need to be cleansed before that is done as there is alleged sexual immorality amongst some church folks as well.

    • Nat ah tahl says:

      ” we know everyone ”
      No we don’t!
      We KNOW no one!!!

  12. Why says:

don’t those elected people focus on improving the lives of the people by seeking ways to improve their quality of life through meaningful jobs and salaries, which have a direct correlation to crime by the way.

We are in desperate need for a sex offender registry to be put in place. There are to many sexual predators walking in our mist. They live next to us, they stand next to us, they sit next to each other in church, they work on jobs next to us. SEXUAL PREDATORS ARE VERY DANGEROUS PEOPLE.

WARNING, OLDER WOMEN GIVE YOUNG BOYS WORMS, OLDER MEN GIVE YOUNG GIRLS WORMS. This is the Year of EXPOSURE and they will be exposed.

Instead of opening a sex offenders register, those in authority busy putting those sex offenders among decent people to disrespect them. They give them power to be among tourist until they hit again to embarrass the whole country. Check out the taxi service how many are there. Ticking bombs waiting to devour.

  16. Mars says:

    Unbelievable..

In this modern day World a sex offenders’list is not available and no intention for such a list is in the horizon. Requests have been made ad nauseum only to be ignored.

    Just Imagine!

BVI hides and protects the criminal offenders and so boldly and openly.

May God have mercy on us and suffer the little children

  17. Disgusted says:

When I was younger, it had how much big hardback men who were pressing me to sleep with them and tried touching me inappropriately. I had a level head and strong mind, so nothing they did or said impressed me. The only thing is I was fearful and ashamed to tell anyone about it, because some of these same people were friendly to my family. I agree that we need such a register here. I think we should be able to share this register with neighboring islands and vice versa.

  18. Hypocrite says:

Ma**er take back the computer you and the VG prince give TO THE RAPIST of THE UNDERAGE GIRLS . WHO up in de prison

  19. LMAO says:

The golden prince of VG. Not to long ago they were calling him Larry the Lobster. This place got jokes.

  20. Don’t be surprise and shock says:

When the ambulance start picking up some of the sexual predators lay out at the side of the road CASTRATED. The only way to stop a sexual predator is CASTRATION.As a female that was sexually abuse by two of my family members I WILL GLADLY VOLUNTEER TO DO THE CUTTING. IT WILL GIVE ME GREAT PLEASURE TO SEE THE SEXUAL PREDATOR/RAPIST BEGGING FOR MERCY WHILE I AM SLOWING CUTTING.

  24. Slack Laws says:

The premier don’t know why this was not done but we know. They did not have the will to do it. We have people among us habitual serious crime offenders and are not being deported. Please let us stop dragging our feet on important things and keep complaining.
