Government Information Service (press release) –  BVIslander Mr Kyron McMaster ranks 2nd fastest in the world in the 400 metres Hurdles (400mH) after having completed the race at the Florida Relays with a time of 48.71.

Mr McMaster recovered from an injury at the World Junior Championship held in July 2016 to win the Bronze in the 400mH last Friday, April 7.

Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn congratulated the athlete stating that as Minister responsible for Sports, he was very proud of the achievements of Mr. Kyron McMaster.

He said, “This is a young man who when faced with adversity, when things seemed dim, has dug deep, worked harder, trained smarter and the results can be seen in his excellent performance last weekend at the Florida Relays.”

Honourable Walwyn added that Mr. McMaster has demonstrated grit and determination on his journey towards success.

He added, “Even when disheartened, Coach Dag Samuels, saw the latent potential that Kyron had and worked with him from injury to the World Junior Championships in 2016. Kyron has been steadily improving with each successive competition. I must commend Coach Samuels for the work that he has been doing with Kyron.”

Minister Walwyn encouraged the BVI Athletic Association and all the coaches and trainers to continue developing the Territory’s young athletes.

He said, “I thank you for the hard work that you do. You can be assured of the Ministry of Sports’ continued support for all our athletes. Kyron McMaster is indeed a role model for other athletes and young people.”

The Ministry of Education and Culture continues to support the BVI Athletes and the Territory’s young people as they continue to create a culture of excellence.
