McMaster stuns Warholm in Diamond League photo finish

Kyron McMaster stunned the sprinting world when he pulled off a classic photo finish to best Norwegian world record holder, Karsten Warholm, for first place in the 400-metre hurdles at the Zurich Diamond League yesterday, August 31.

Warholm, previously undefeated this season, struggled as McMaster matched him stride for stride and ultimately got the better of the Olympic and World Champion at the end of one of the more exhilarating races in Zurich.

The BVI’s 26-year-old racing phenom finished in a time of 47.27 to emerge victorious as Warholm was left to settle for second-place in 47.30 and Brazil’s Alison Dos Santos crossed the finish line in 47.62 to take third place in the race.

In a post-race interview after beating Warholm, McMaster said he expected the race to be a dog-fight and prepared to fight to the end as he entered the race.

The sprint champion said he came out with a plan and remained committed throughout as he executed his race phases to pull off the thrilling upset against Warholm.

“I got out of my head completely. If I was stuck in my head, I knew I would have fumbled the bag,” McMaster said. “So I was just, like, ‘you know what, I’m going to take this in my phases like I’ve been doing all season’.”

In completing the win, McMaster narrowly missed out on improving on his personal best but said his next race will be in Oregon where he expects to continue his outstanding season.

Just last week, McMaster completed a historic silver medal finish for the BVI as he came second against Warholm in a time of 47.34 at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The Virgin Islander out-ran the all-time second and third fastest men in the event — Rai Benjamin of the USA and dos Santos of the Brazil, respectively to earn the silver medal.

There’s no need to talk about the runner coming second as the “white boy”. That’s just racist and you’d object if the Norwegians talked about Kyron as that “black boy”. Kyron did an amazing job against great talent and won. Color has nothing to do with the achievements of either man.

WTH?! If he white he white and Kyron Black and that’s that. Color should not be an issue because they are all beautiful. If it came out with hatred intent well that is racist. Love your color be it white, black, yellow, blue, purple.

Y’all too uptight in this place making everything an issue even a frigging color.

color, as you have postulated, has nothing to do with Kyron’s win, why then, did you mention so in the first instance? Could it be something psychological?

Pretty racist to call someone a white boy. You call someone a black boy in many countries you get arrested. Why so different in BVI. ?

  9. Setting the record straight. says:

There is no such thing as a white person living on earth today.

That classification is a human construct created in the sixteenth century to promote and propagate white supremacy.

It is used to this day by 1/3 of earth’s population to maintain dominance of 2/3 of the earth’s population, resources and people, where violence, oppression and murder are the main tools of maintaining dominance.

It is an historical fact that the white has been and remains the sole greatest threat to colored humans everywhere since the beginning of time..

Teethes are white, milk is white some flour is white. They are not they color of any of those things; yet through history they have assumed the color of white they are clearly not.

Other that them, it has been a very horrific day for the rest of humanity as history continues to illustrate. Sad!!.

Our hero for a long while but in the last 3 years he has demonstrated so many strengths, it takes a lot to be a world champion and he has shown us so much, turning defeat into victory, hard work, commitment, executing a plan and achievable tangible goals which may once have seemed impossible. The win was geat but his strength and perseverance is commendable <3

  15. Charm says:

My Hats off. Very proud. Very proud of your accomplishments.

  16. Ausar says:

Congrats, Mr. McMaster on such a feat.

Truly, to dominate in an area of sports where others have controlled, is quite an accomplishment!

And, yes,”IDIOT”,sports, and the play, dominance, and its mastery, is truly considered warfare under the global system of racism/white supremacy!

This is exactly WHY, there are sports which make it difficult for Black’s and other non-whites to compete for mastery and dominance.

Sports, like all other aspects of the global system of racism, is an aspect of psychological mastery, that, if mastered over time, and for controlled periods, actually influence the moods, and attitudes of a people!

    Again, Congrats, Mr. McMaster..

Continue to offer mastery and dominance!

Indeed, such continued feats renders BLOWS against the global system of racism/white supremacy!!!
