Medical team departs for Jost Van Dyke to test all its residents

A team of health and medical professionals were deployed to Jost Van Dyke this week to commence testing on all residents living on the sister island.

The size of the team is not immediately known to our news centre but news of their departure comes at a time when a 24-hour lockdown, which will last at least seven days, is implemented on the island.

Jost Van Dyke, which falls under the Second Electoral District, was placed under lockdown days after government received an official report that an airline passenger who travelled from the BVI to St Vincent last Wednesday tested positive on arrival.

Health Minister Carvin Malone, therefore, said the lockdown is in place to prevent any potential spread of the virus.

Besides the airline passenger, there have been no other confirmed cases reported on the island so far.

All marine and other traffic to the sister island during lockdown is restricted unless otherwise approved. Governor Augustus Jaspert said food and other essential supplies will be provided to those adversely affected during this time.
