Men taken into custody after latest drug bust
BVI News understands that several men have been taken into custody after police intercepted a vessel during a joint operation in the waters surrounding the Virgin Islands recently.
The arrests were made after officers recovered a significant quantity of suspected illegal drugs following a pursuit at sea.
Information reaching BVI News is that officers from specialised units were conducting patrols when they encountered a cargo-type vessel suspected of being involved in illegal activity.
Highly placed sources indicated that persons on board allegedly threw items which appeared to be bales of cocaine overboard; however, the items were subsequently recovered by law enforcement officers.
BVI News understands that officers boarded the vessel and discovered several male crew members on board. Information received indicates that none of the men appear to be nationals of the BVI.
Sources further revealed that additional suspected narcotics were found on the vessel after it was escorted to Port Purcell. The seized items and the detainees were then taken into custody.
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) confirmed in a brief statement on Tuesday that illegal drugs were recovered during the operation. “As a result of a joint operation, the RVIPF, along with other law enforcement partners, intercepted a vessel last night and recovered a quantity of illegal narcotics,” the Police Information Office stated. “This remains a dynamic investigation, and further information will be provided as it progresses”.
BVI News understands that the suspects are being held on suspicion of importing cocaine into the territory.
Major drug seizures have occurred periodically in the territory, and joint operations at sea have been a key enforcement tool in recent years.
Police remain tight-lipped and have yet to disclose charges, nationalities, or additional investigative findings in this latest case.

Considering that there is a lack of availability in Hotel Balsum where are these six individuals,charged with serious crime going to be housed ..are they free to return home or are they going to be mentioned tomorrow’s headline that they have ” escaped” and the boat caught fire and destroyed.
