Mentally-challenged man hospitalised after attack

BVI News understands that a 50-year-old man was recently arrested and charged for attacking another who has known mental challenges.

It’s not clear whether the two men are related, but reports say the attacker went to the victim’s house and accused him of stealing items from his vehicle.

He reportedly pushed his way into the house, grabbed the victim out of bed and began beating him repeatedly.

It’s understood that others were present in the house at the time of the attack but it is unclear whether they tried to stop the attacker. Sources say he hit the victim with a belt, shovel, and other items.

The mentally-challenged victim later received treatment at hospital. The extent of his injuries has not been ascertained.

The police later arrested and charged the attacker and granted bail for more than $8,000.

Our news centre also understands that the police are still investigating the matter but it is not yet known when the attacker will appear in court to answer the charges laid against him.
