Minimal disruption expected with Fish Bay roadworks — Contractor

Dion Crabbe of Autland Construction.

Local contractor, Dion Crabbe, has downplayed suggestions that there will be massive traffic disruptions with the rehabilitation works on Fish Bay Road.

Crabbe — whose construction firm, Autland Heavy Equipment Company, is undergoing the $1.7 million project — said he believes the works will be “less disruptive” because of a temporary bypass that was created to facilitate the flow of traffic as construction takes place.

“We will try our best like all the other projects to accommodate the ongoing traffic but just keep in mind that construction is happening. Just be a bit cautious and a bit patient,“ Crabbe said during a recent public consultation. “But other than that, I don’t foresee any major disruptions in the traffic to be honest.“

Crabbe said works were scheduled to begin last week. However, discussions have been ongoing with owners at Skelton Bay lot on how the property can be properly secured with the addition of the bypass.

Meanwhile, Patlian Johnson, Community Liaison Officer with the Recovery & Development Agency (RDA), acknowledged that the project is large and has the potential to cause a lot of disruption.

She said keeping stakeholders aware of the project and any issues that arise will be key in the success of the project.

The RDA Liason Officer also said safety concerns for pedestrians and motorists were addressed with the contractor and boarding will be erected to address this.

The first phase of the project is expected to be the construction of a culvert to facilitate the flow of water to the sea and is slated to be completed over a six-month period.

This is the largest road rehabilitation project being undertaken with the CDB loan used to fund recovery projects across the territory.

Cant this work be done at nights?

    • I have been saying this same thing says:

It’s a no brainer. Get some heavy duty lights and do the work when there is less traffic. This is done on major US road projects. Not saying that work isn’t done during the day but the most disruptive work is done at night. Just saying. It’s 2021! Geez ?

I’m glad that we were notified in advance so when the time comes around there will be no surprise ..

Unfortunately, the intellect, mind sets and managerial acumen that is in critical positins in this society has a lot to be desired.

Take an historic to current look at the following institutions for their sound management, efficieny and productivity, for example:

    PWD:
Roads infrastructure, proper drainage, guts clearing, flood and hurricane preparedness, all neglected, but critical components of. functioning society.

    Electricity:
What sane mind authorizes a nationwide blackout all night until dawn? That is not 21st or sane thinking, not with the level of gun violence and criminality of the day.

    Education:
Why, after 6-7 decades, education is still not the number one priority of the government, society and people? Education is the economics of a country. Some have that notion twisted.

    Health Care:
Health care has come along, long way, thanks to the previous government and Dr. Heskitt, hope i spelt his correctly. Give credit where it is due.

However, much more can and must be done. There are speciality areas such as predisposed conditions that are reeking havoc within this society, and the limited service at Peebles appear quite ineffective in serving those who are suffering and in need of help, for example.

A decent living wage that meets the cost of living:

The current wage/salary/minimum wage scheme in place since the abolishion of slavery is nothing more than slavery minus the brutality.

If people can’t make a decent wage to meet their mimimum living expenses, then they will not seek alternative means to making a dollar.

Don’t call the place a narco state on the one hand, and on the other, workers a paid slave wages, degree holders barely make sufficient to put aside for a child’s education, and most locals never see upper level management salaries.. ..

All of the conditions you have listed will continue because of the crab in a barrel attitude that is displayed by people like you. Beating your chest every day finding fault of every thing. Seems like an obsession.

To try to elevate an ignorant people not to be comfortable in cesspool of mediocrity, is like to set yourself on fire in order to light the way for a blind man!

How can one be so blind as not to be able to evaluate that his entire premise, stated, is directly out of the barrel of crabs? How ludicrous.

A people must never remain silent and settle for mediocrity. They must be brave and raise their voices and enounciate the issues affecting them.
