Ministers refusing to attend Cabinet meetings chaired by Archer?

Deputy Governor David Archer, Jr.

Talk show host Claude Skelton Cline has publicly called out some members of the government who are allegedly refusing to attend Cabinet meetings chaired by Deputy Governor David Archer.

Under Section 37 of the Virgin Islands Constitution, the Deputy Governor is authorised to act in the role of Governor when the officeholder is out of the territory. Deputy Governor Archer is currently serving in that capacity while Governor Daniel Pruce is away until August 1.

But Skelton Cline said he has received reports that some members of Cabinet are not in favour of Archer chairing Cabinet meetings in his capacity as Acting Governor.

“I understand that some of you (ministers) have refused to go to Cabinet because the now acting Governor — who is vested with the executive powers of the Governor — is in charge and you don’t want him sitting in Cabinet. You don’t want to go to Cabinet to conduct the people’s business because of your foolhardy, narcissistic posture,” Skelton Cline stated.

He did not name the government ministers who are guilty of this behaviour but promised he will provide names in a future broadcast of the Honestly Speaking radio show.

“We only behave this way when it comes to each other,” Skelton Cline added.

BVI News has not been able to ascertain whether these allegations are true, but Skelton Cline suggested that the objection to the Deputy Governor chairing Cabinet started under an administration previous to Dr Natalio Wheatley’s.

    • @Well!well! says:

Can some of us just drop the one negative sentence about independence every day? Everyone knows by now that many are against it, thought their reasons are far from being knowledgable.

      • BuzzBvi says:

But not all of us!! Independence would be a very bad thing and this is just more (unexpected) evidence to show our leaders behave like toddlers who have been let loose in a candy store.

  5. Resident says:

Perhaps the solution is to get a deputy governor from UK as well as the actual governor?

Honestly, they are like pathetic children at a time when the BVI is falling to bits and 13 year olds are arrested with firearms apparently.

    Can it get worse?

  10. A grave system says:

That system where an individual can aspire to and attain deputy, but will die in that position because the colonial system will never agree to a Black man ascending to governorship is undemocratic in a country where its colonial rulers are constantly hollering DEMOCRACY..

That old, delapidated UK hold on power is the clearest indication that the people need to begin moving forward into political self governance.

Colonialism, in all it its deadly and inhumane forms are antiquated and puritanical, and needs to get out and go to the grave yard of history.
