Miss World Int’l Chair donates $5K in supplies to VG school

Chairwoman of the Miss World International Organisation, Julia Morley, has donated $5,000 worth of school supplies to the Valley Day school in Virgin Gorda; delivering on a promise she made during a visit to the territory back in February.

Morley had promised to donate to the school after learning of the needs of students from well-known Virgin Gorda resident and businessman, Allington ‘Gumption’ Creque.

The businessman noted that he was happy Morley was able to donate to the educational facility.

Reigning Mr and Miss World BVI Temulji Hughes, and Yadali Thomas Santos presented the supplies to the school this week.

They noted that the donation is a demonstration of the Miss World Organisation’s mission to inspire leadership qualities in young people, as well as “to promote commitment to the community, encourage academic excellence, and reinforce high ethical standards”.

Students, in the meantime, were elated to receive the supplies, some of which they started using straight away.

Among the supplies were painting tools which students used to commence a painting project with Miss BVI.

Delivering the donation was made possible through assistance from the Ministry of Education, Her Majesty’s Customs who facilitated duty-free exemptions for the items, and Virgin Gorda Transport/Speedy’s Ferry which sponsored the transporting of the items from Tortola to Virgin Gorda.
