Mobile desalination plant to be installed as short-term fix to water woes in Third District

A reverse osmosis water purification system. (Not the exact one mentioned in the story)

A mobile desalination plant is to be installed in Sea Cow’s Bay as a temporary measure to address the longstanding water problems plaguing residents of the Third District.

This was revealed by Premier Andrew Fahie in his response to questions by the Third District Representative Julian Fraser in the House of Assembly recently.

Premier Fahie said the Minister for Utilities Kye Rymer will be spearheading that short-term plan for the residents of Sea Cow’s Bay.

“[Government is] currently working on an arrangement with Seven Seas Water to install a mobile reverse osmosis desalination plant.”

Premier Fahie, who is also the Minister of Finance, further said: “The cost to be incurred for this venture will be offset by increased collections in revenue as everyone will now have access to water on a continuous basis.”

Fahie, however, did not specify a timeline when this plant will be operational.

Long Term Plan

The Premier also said there is a long term plan, which is expected to be completed in early 2020.

“The Water & Sewage Department is hoping to have a constant flow of water to the eastern end of the island, inclusive of Sea Cow’s Bay, by the end of this year or early in the first quarter of 2020 with an upgrade to the pumping system.”

According to the Premier, this water issue plaguing the Third District dates as far back as a decade ago when Fraser had responsibility for water and public works.

Once again STRUPE COMMENTS rule the day. You clearly don’t have even a small clue of how expensive, time consuming, and labor intensive water networking and distribution is. But go on, cry about your taxes while you sit and type, doing NOTHING to help BVI or your pitiful selves. This is why BVI is the slowest to recover. STRUPE playing expert but know zero
