More charges for duo in drug find
Two men who were recently arrested on charges of possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled drug have now been hit with an additional charge.
Police said the duo — Keanus Smart, 18 of Free Bottom and Khaleed Francis, 24 of Nottingham Estate — have both been charged with an additional offence of unlawful possession of explosives.
The men were already facing charges of unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, unlawful possession of a controlled drug, and keeping an unlicensed firearm.
According to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, the new charge is related to the discovery of ammunition during the initial vehicle interception.
Police said previously that they intercepted a suspicious vehicle after 11 pm on October 28 while on routine patrol in the Fat Hog’s Bay area.
A quantity of drugs was found after the vehicle was stopped and searched and the two male occupants were arrested on suspicion of possession. Police said the scene was revisited the following morning and a firearm was found in the nearby bushes.
The two men remain in custody until their appearance at the Magistrate’s Court.
