Muffling the nuisance! A dozen more bikes seized, nine charged

The police have confiscated a dozen motor scooters and charged nine persons for various traffic offences including having loud mufflers and driving while unlicensed and uninsured.

This was done at the weekend during what the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) described as “another major sweep on road traffic violators”.

“In Saturday’s operation, two males were arrested and charged for driving without a driver’s licence and driving when not covered by insurance,” the RVIPF reported.

“Persons driving both motor vehicles and scooters were reported for another 22 offences including driving with an expired driver’s licence and driving an unlicensed vehicle. Persons were also ticketed for another 12 offences, nine for riding without a helmet, and three missing identification plates,” it added.

Police Commissioner Mark Collins applauded the officers responsible for coordinating the large operation and further acknowledged further efforts of the commanders Acting Sergeant Kishon Leslie and his team, Acting Sergeant Bruce Huggins and the Armed Response Unit and Inspector Durville Carty and his officers from the Marine Unit.

Commissioner Collins said he had received several calls and emails since the operation. He said those calls conveyed gratitude to the RVIPF.

“Those operations to pursue owners of bikes that cause a noise nuisance are specifically planned to minimize the risks to riders, the public and officers,” the RVIPF stated.
