Najan Christopher’s arrest shows hypocrisy in the system — Henry

Julio ‘Sam’ Henry

Talk show host Julio ‘Sam’ Henry has said public officer Najan Christopher was recently arrested and charged because of “hypocrisy in the system”.

Christopher is the former Director of the International Affairs Secretariat who was arrested and charged this week after reportedly sending a diplomatic note to the United States (US) courts earlier this year, reportedly in an attempt to free disgraced former Premier, Andrew Fahie.

But speaking on his radio show Speak Out BVI earlier this week, Henry said it was unfair that Christopher was charged for doing her job while Police Commissioner Mark Collin remains in office despite painting a negative picture of the BVI with the now-viral ‘Policing in Paradise’ video

The video, which Collins said was a recruiting tool for the police force, depicted the territory as a violent and crime-riddled place. It caused public outrage.

“It exemplifies the hypocrisy in our system to see people like Najan who was doing her job at the time now being vilified and charged. On the same hand, the Police Commissioner, weeks before, was engaged in a video who granted permission to an outside agency in the United Kingdom to come into the territory — and he himself (the commissioner) assisted in putting together a videotape to basically destroy the reputation of the territory. But he wasn’t sent home for breach of trust,” Henry argued.

“What did our Governor Mr John Rankin say? He said it (the video) was unacceptable. But that’s it. [Rankin is saying]; ‘he (the commissioner) is with me and I’m going to protect him’. But at the same time, here is law enforcement enforcing law on our citizens of this territory. If that don’t enrage you, I don’t know what will,” Henry said.

Some sections of the public are in support of Christopher, whom they say was only doing her job when she dispatched the letter to assist former Premier Fahie.

Radio talk show host Claude Skelton Cline has stated she is a good candidate for elected office and should consider contesting the next general election.

No No it has some people in the BVI who believes that they can do anything in the BVI and get away from it. Najan Christopher I heard dont know if its true was told not to do it and she went ahead.

What she did was a serious thing, very serious. Do you know what it is when someone seeks to abuse diplomatic ties with a country by seeking immunity for a serious crime committed against the citizens of that country.

What Collins did to hurt the image of this country was terrible but it was not illegal. A set of you all want independence so you can do what you want and have nobody to answer to.

It is alleged that you were deported from the United States. So you ain’t the best person to talk. The UK by putting this unity Government together along with Collins tape may have an agenda but the problem is that we have an immoral generation of politicians and leaders who have no strong moral compass and would destroy the country to save themselves.

not hypocrisy but a serious lack of education and rational thinking by the ex premier’s staff. Her prison sentence should also include re-education about the UK’s monarchy relationship with the ministers/MP’s and their colonies around the globe. .

    First of all,

    1. Past Chief relinquished his authority prior to heading out of the jurisdiction.
    2. Deputy was acting head, though allegedly unavailable.
    3. PS was allegedly unavailable.
    4. Governor was available.

Public Officers are to follow orders in a chain of command. Did the rogue one do this? It appears not!

The Foy had no jurisdiction to make a bogus order about a position he did not hold, whilst the Deputy was in charge.

The Public Officer indicated she informed her higher ranks, even if this was the case, it was not in her rank to pen this.

If people are allegedly smart, they should know better. Now the stooges come out to cry foul, and even call for the potential of an elevated elected status for the perpetrator.

On the other hand, comparing this to a video of real footage, be it offensive to some, is ridiculous. The film is real and does reflect real issues and this leak was not intended for public consumption. But some want to fool others, and make it appear it is all a Miami Vice Stage Set that does not happen here. Well it is not, it is dangerous and real, that is the truth and everybody knows it.

Some people should not quit their day job and engage in talk shows, they fail miserably to make valid points, mostly bile.

    Lord help us!

Sam has a lot to repent about. He supports ignorance about in the name of politics because it is attached to the VIP. If it was an NDP premier that got arrested and someone did what Najan did he would have been against them. The man has no credibility. He is nothing more that an empty kerosine VIP pan.

  16. Time Will Tell says:

But the bottom line is that she did not report to herself. There was an acting Premier and whether she respected that or not she duties mandated that she deferred to him for instructions. She did not do that but instead did what she thought was best and not her job. He defence has been that Mr. Fahie was still Premier but at the time he was away and had appointed a replacement to act in his stead. She acted wrong and should through herself at the mercy of the court. If I were her I’d get past this and retire. She qualifies for that. Take some time and contemplate her next professional move.

I’m sorry – but Mr. Henry is not a good advocate for this territory. I’ve listened to his opinions for several years now and he brings no value. He is stubborn and ignorant. He tries to say he is for the territory but it is so clear he has his own motives. He thinks he is right and everyone else is wrong. If someone else comes with a good idea he automatically dismisses it because it isn’t his idea. He also makes assumptions and spews them out like its fact…. Please do not take anything this man says seriously.

  20. Tolian says:

Most people say hypocrisy, but where is it? One action was allegedly a violation of actual legal parameters the other was in poor taste. Poor taste does not equate to illegal. Silly persons and all the morally bankrupt simpletons have yet to make a valid case for the video being illegal. Is it in bad taste yes, illegal no and sorry to say something that is in bad taste would in any other place with a semblance of common sense only warrants an apology. I have heard some of the postings of supposed knowledgeable people here arguing for the young woman. However most of the arguments include well “we don’t know the protocols by which the alleged incident is governed or what the protocols are’. Simply by stating that, means no one can then formulate any assertion of guilt or innocence. It should simply be left to play out in court as any MORAL society has established. But am I shocked by people here? No. Why? Because just look at the optics. This disapproval comes from a society whose own former leader sits waiting for trial outside their domain.. Smdh Even heard a pastor(cough, cough) say the accused would make a good politician. So someone facing alleged allegations they would vote to political office and this is why this place is the way it is. By the way you all throw the title pastor around very easily. I would hold that title a in a way higher regard than how it is applied.

Not sure I understand this – she tried to help Fahie from being detained by the US Authorities for a crime – that’s aiding and abetting in my book – a crime. This view is why the BVI will never advance itself and it and its people will just keep getting closer to hell.

Sam stick to things you do well, go back to driving that taxi. You are completely misguided and she did wrong, very wrong and she knew it.
Our Police Commissioner was involved in the video but let’s be honest, there were no untruths in it. It was unsavoury to watch but it was very true and real. CoP is a strong man, we need good people, the right man for the right job he is!

  31. @ Remember says:

That radio show with their hashtags free the drew etc should be ashamed of themselves defending criminal behaviour, gun and drug smuggling.

This is what they teach their children?

  32. Cover says:

All this fake outrage about the police video would be justified if we were a quiet sleepy territory where nothing ever happened. But all that footage was taken here, in real life. It would never have gone beyond police recruitment circles if you all hadn’t jumped on it for supposedly misrepresenting the BVI
Problem: this IS what the BVI is. It’s what we have become. eg Head Coach, the CoI and the many years of drug busts, chases or murders that seemed to happen almost every week. Unsolved murders because no one dares talk, etc etc.
So Sam making some nonsense false equivalence about the video and this lady’s questionable actions is 100% meaningless. Nada.
Seems like the people who are most vocal about independence and against the CoI and anything to do with the UK and portraying all white people as racist enslavers, etc, are just using this kind of nonsense as cover, dressed up as high morals and political liberation.
Who wants liberation led by low IQ charlatans like Sam, Esteem and CSC?
    Not. Me.

  36. Moving On says:

    Re SAM on the CO:

What was on the COP’s mind or that of the recruiting officer when they added the drug bust video as part of their recruiting drive? The video turned out to be of bad taste and I think the COP apologized for using same! What if the sole motive for adding the activity was to peak the interest of personnel that like high impact action to enlist in the police service? All bad taste doesn’t rise to criminality, move pass that and educate and build better not bitter.

  37. So now says:

It’s a crime to expose a crime , the video that everybody was trying
to hide under the rug which was revealed for everybody to see is so painful that some people is still denying it ,how is that going to help the country or the people it this lawlessness isn’t removed and the country returned to ( nature’s natural beauty ) instead of nature’s hidden dark secrets ?
