National Health Insurance marks 10 years of service

The National Health Insurance (NHI) proudly celebrates its 10th anniversary this January, commemorating a decade of advancing health, hope, and security for the people of the Virgin Islands. Since its inception, NHI has played a transformative role in improving access to quality healthcare, fostering financial protection, and promoting wellness across the Territory.

To honour this milestone, NHI will host a series of public events from January 6–10, 2026, inviting residents, medical professionals, and community partners to participate in a week of reflection, engagement, and celebration.

Calendar of Events

Opening Ceremony

January 6 | 10:00 a.m. | Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital Lobby

The week begins with a formal opening ceremony featuring remarks from key stakeholders and a tribute to the NHI’s evolution over the past decade.

Provider Expo & Health Fair

January 7 | 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.| Multi-Purpose Sports Complex

A cornerstone of the anniversary week, the Expo will bring together both overseas and local healthcare providers offering free health screenings, wellness consultations, and educational resources. Attendees can explore a wide range of services—from blood pressure checks and skin assessments to mental health support and preventive care tips. This event underscores NHI’s commitment to proactive health management and community outreach.

Medical Symposium

January 9 | 5:30 p.m. | Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital Lobby

Open to all medical professionals, this symposium will feature expert-led discussions on healthcare trends, policy development, and collaborative strategies for improving patient outcomes. Topics will include urology, neurology, neurosurgery, healthcare management and other medical trends.

Community Walk/Run

January 10 | 5:30 a.m. | Route: NHI Office to CSY Dock and back

The week concludes with a spirited walk/run open to all. Starting at the Joshua J. Smith Building, participants will journey to CSY Dock and return, promoting physical activity and community unity. Whether walking or running, residents are encouraged to join in celebrating health in motion. There will be prizes and light refreshments.

Over the past ten years, NHI has become a pillar of the Territory’s healthcare system, enabling thousands of residents to access essential medical services. As NHI looks ahead to the next decade, it remains committed to innovation, inclusiveness and continuous improvement in service delivery.
