NDP cancels Halloween party after outcry from Christians
The National Democratic Party (NDP) has cancelled a Halloween event organised by its youth movement following public backlash from members of the Christian community who condemned the celebration as inappropriate for children.
In a statement issued on October 20, the party announced that its Halloween Treat Fest, originally scheduled for October 31 at Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park, would be replaced with a Family Fun Day at a later date.
The decision followed criticism from members of the faith community, including Apostle R. Tasha Toussaint who publicly challenged the party’s decision to promote Halloween. Toussaint described Halloween as a celebration of the demonic kingdom and warned against exposing children to its spiritual implications.
Others questioned why the NDP would promote Halloween when the BVI is already struggling with spiritual challenges. A few residents said the event would deter them from voting for the NDP.
In its subsequent statement, the NDP Youth Movement acknowledged the concerns and said it respected the diverse beliefs and values within the territory.
“We respect these concerns and acknowledge the importance of listening to the community and being mindful of the diverse beliefs and perspectives within it,” the statement said.
The party explained that the replacement event would emphasise wholesome children’s activities, family engagement and community togetherness. The Family Fun Day will be open to everyone, regardless of political affiliation or background.
The statement did not announce a new date but indicated that further details would be released once arrangements are finalised.

And now the Christian Council can focus back on not condemning criminals and corruption.
Natalio, this is leadership, the people say don’t and you listen not go full speed ahead.
If the Late, Great H.L. Stoutt listened to every naysayer the BVI would not be what it is today. Leaders are meant to LEAD not cower to every single opposition. Nothing is wrong with having a Halloween Party for kids, NOTHING! This move just shows that the new leadership of the NDP is exactly what we expected, soft, disinterested and only interested in the perks of the posts.
Yall gobble up anything from these people, talking about “acknowledged the concerns and said it respected the diverse beliefs and values within the territory ” well yeah duhh maybe cause its election time and you want votes you listened, what happens outside of that, yall forget?
They cannot manage a Halloween Party but trying to run a Political Party? The reps for the 2nd and 8th appear to be way out of their depth on this one and I think it will get worst as the campaigning gets into full gear.
Halloween originated over 2,000 years ago as the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which merged with Christian traditions to become a global secular celebration.
@ St. Ursula
You are right about Halloween being a Samhain festival which is a Celtic tradition. Samhain honours the darker side of life. What gets to me is how we as a people embrace and celebrate traditions that we don’t understand and are not our own. Thanksgiving Day is approaching and every restuarant are going to advertise Thanksgiving lunches in celebration of the day. Ask any person who is celebrating Thanksgiving Day”why are you celebrating Thanksgiving Day”? They can’t answer because they donot know the origin or meaning of Thanksgiving. Same with Halloween. We are empty and void of culture as a people. This should concern us all.
How sad that a small, demonic group can wreak such havoc and destroy all the fun in life.
I guess this is what they mean by the phrase “fear of god”?
Im confused they they against Halloween why is only them they can’t have it .but others businesses having Halloween till day brake every year .
These people do not care that people have no running water for days and that kids go to school hungry daily but they make a big stink about a Halloween Party. These same people applying all this energy to nonsense, are they doing fundraising to help the less fortunate, or are they cramped between their church walls praising the white Jesus that they have been indoctrinated to serve instead of understanding what real life is about? These are people bowing and praying to a white man nailed to a cross and are telling other people that something is wrong with what they are doing.
No Halloween, but gyrate and grind all you want, pretty much buck a$$ naked, festival style! Priorities are so f’ed up here! The duplicitous nature of these wanna be demigods is pathetic!
I would preface this comment by saying I am a growing Christian that loves Halloween! I love seeing the costume and trick-o-treaters. I love getting candy and watching scary movies even though I get scared easily.
That being said, I am disappointed that this is what the so-called Christian community chooses to stand firm against. This is the outcry that is heard and actioned upon. So called demonic forces and the devil’s birthday. Since when do you Christians believe more in the power of the devil than the power of God. I will not deny that there are spiritual attacks out there but do not confuse that with a fun and harmless event meant to entertain children. This whole movement screams fear/ignorance and in this essay, I will…..
