NDP has selected full slate of candidates
The National Democratic Party (NDP) has already selected its full slate of candidates for the next general election, although party leader Marlon Penn says the names will be formally announced in due time.
Penn made the disclosure during a recent appearance on the Talking Points radio programme, where he sought to dismiss concerns about the NDP’s internal structure and readiness for the upcoming polls.
“The NDP structure is strong. Actually, the party is functioning, the executive has been working,” Penn said. “We’ve announced a couple of our candidates the other day, and we intend to roll the rest of our candidates out accordingly.”
So far, the NDP has officially announced Aaron Parillon as its candidate for the Third District and Perline Scatliffe-Leonard for the Seventh District. However, Penn confirmed that decisions have already been made internally on the remaining candidates.
“We haven’t announced anyone else yet, we’ve made the decisions internally,” he stated.
During the interview, host Damion Grange pressed Penn about the status of senior NDP members Melvin “Mitch” Turnbull and Myron Walwyn, particularly following questions surrounding the party’s leadership elections.
Asked whether Turnbull and Walwyn were still on board, Penn gave a brief “yes.”
When Grange followed up by asking whether they would remain in their respective districts, Penn only responded: “They’re still part of the organisation.”
Pressed on whether he could therefore announce them as candidates, Penn declined to provide further details: “The party structure is working and I am not going to usurp the party structure,” he said.
Penn’s guarded responses come amid continued speculation about the future of some high-ranking NDP members. Reports have surfaced that some within the party are not confident in Penn’s leadership, while there has also been speculation that senior members could break ranks and join the Progressive Liberal Movement (PLM), the new political party led by former legislator Mark Vanterpool.
Neither Turnbull nor Walwyn has publicly announced a move to the PLM.

Take a long walk through the 3rd district and you’ll understand the deputy is just as good as having no credit. The self proclaimed Liberator ain’t liberated us out of anything but into water nightmare.

Natalio has to go, but Perline Scatliffe is not a suitable replacement. It will just be one of the same and we will be spinning our wheel in mud. No progress. Check Perline track record at WSD. She could not manage a department, how do you think she is going to do as manager and overseer of a district. I am not speaking from a position of hate its just facts. Replacing one unsuitable person with another unsuitable person is not progress. Recruiting candidates just for numbers and not for quality and ability don’t make sense. I have said my piece.

I am predicting the same confusion that happen last election will happen again except Lorna will not win. I can see peple likw Mark and Mitch fighting for position..Mark fighting for Premier and Mitch for deputy. I think Myron would be wise and be content with minister of education…For me I Just want Ronie to win and become deputy Premier and minister of Finance..Ronnie is the key in moving the country forward…
