NDP promises disability-friendly infrastructures ahead of advanced polls

“We must ensure that the things we take for granted are properly accounted for [such as] making sure … we have designated parking for seniors and persons with disabilities” — Myron Walwyn

In what could be perceived as a last-ditch effort to reach the demographic of elderly and differently-abled persons who are expected to vote during today’s advanced polls, National Democratic Party (NDP) leader Myron Walwyn on Wednesday outlined the party’s plans that specifically affect those voters.

He said the NDP will ensure that all physical public structures that are constructed as part of the territory’s redevelopment have provisions for senior citizens as well as persons with physical disabilities.

“In the modern Virgin Islands, we must ensure that the things we take for granted are properly accounted for [such as] making sure we have elevators in buildings with several floors, making sure that public buildings have ramps that have rails, [making sure] that we have designated parking for seniors and persons with disabilities, making sure that we have proper sidewalks and simple things such as crosswalks at various intervals,” Walwyn said.

“The society must work for everyone and not just the young. The young will eventually get old if they are lucky,” he added.

How NDP said it will grow local economy

Walwyn, in the meantime, said if the NDP is elected as government for a third consecutive term, the party will continue to place emphasis on tourism and financial services to drive the local economy.

Notwithstanding this emphasis on those economic pillars, Walwyn said an NDP government will “aggressively pursue diversification of the economy” with a new emphasis on agriculture and fishing, construction, and renewable energy.

Walwyn also said the party will be presenting what he described as a strategy to develop the territory’s human resources.

I’m not a party supporter of either group but let us be fair. I have listened to all of the persons campaigning and examined the records. All parties have weak candidates but when it comes to leadership and looking at experience, qualifications and a record of getting things done, I will have to give Myron the edge. I may not vote for all NDP, at least that’s how I feel now but I have been impressed with their campaigning especially with the leader and their entire atlarge team each of whom brings some good things to the table. I don’t look at it as giving NDP a 3rd term as its a new leader and a new team so I will continue listening down to Sunday. I hope we have a safe voting process on Monday and that people take this seriously and vote for country and not based on emotions alone.

Stop lying talk is cheap money buy land according to one NDP member. 2 manifestos less than 20% completed that is failure. You don’t have to take my word for it look at the manifestos and see for yourself. When you hire somebody and they don’t finish the job once you don’t hire them again but because you didn’t lose $7.2 million personally y’all got this thing for a joke.
