Nearly 50 teachers left in 2023, most Belongers
Education Minister Sharie deCastro disclosed that nearly 50 teachers left the public education system in 2023, the highest number of departures recorded in recent years.
Speaking in the House of Assembly, deCastro presented a year-by-year breakdown of teacher exits.
“In 2022, a total of 33 educators exited the system, of whom 21 were Belongers. In 2023, 48 educators left the system, including 31 Belongers. In 2024, there were 32 departures, of which 21 were Belongers. And as of May 2025, 21 educators will exit the system this year and 13 of them are Belongers,” she stated.
The Minister said the trend reflected both retirements and resignations.
“In 2022, there were eight retirements followed by a rise in 2023 with 18 retirements, including several principals. The number slightly decreased to 13 in 2024, and as of May this year, 11 retirements have been confirmed for 2025,” she explained.
Resignations have declined in recent years, with deCastro crediting pay increases.
“From a high of 17 resignations in 2022, the number dropped to 15 in 2023, then 11 in 2024, and as of May 2025, only one resignation has been recorded. This dramatic turnaround in retention is no accident, it directly reflects the realignment of teacher compensation, a powerful catalyst for change in our education workforce,” she said.
DeCastro acknowledged that salary was the main reason teachers left.
“Based on the information received through my recruitment and HR team, the reason given by most individuals who would have left the system was the concern over salary. There were additional concerns, generally speaking, in terms of the education system around infrastructure, in terms of how healthy and safe our schools are, and of course resources,” she explained.
The salary adjustments for teachers, which took effect in January 2024, positioned compensation among the most competitive in the region, according to deCastro. She described the move as “a powerful affirmation of the profession’s value and its centrality to national development”.
Teachers have long raised concerns over low pay, inadequate school facilities, and limited resources.

Whether they are bvislanders or belongera the fact is that teachers left. Why?
Underpaid, undervalued, mistreated, kids of today are insufferable, parents included… just to name a few
IF we look at the retention rates in the HOA. Clearly a 120% salary increase will solve the problem.
At the same time a 100% salary decrease in the HOA may solve our other problems.
They running from the minister and the CEO. I would run from them to.

I was one of those educators who was forced to retire due to mRNA poisoning, exaccerbated by being underpaid, undervalued and mistreated by members of the establishment from CEO’S to Principals.
Our people are filled with evil, pernicious attitudes, behaviors and philosophies, and they oppress their own every day severely.
There horific treatment of others, though kept secret, make one question whether there is really a God and a heaven that they so uphold daily.
From 1979-2021 there were many devils existing as CEO’S, NOT ALL, Principals and department Heads and Program directors. They were so evil they would make satan look like and an angel.
