New border security equipment coming to HM Customs

As the territory continues to advance protocols and measures to strengthen its border security strategies, the government is taking additional steps as it seeks to attain a suitable tenderer to supply and install surveillance equipment for Her Majesty’s Customs.

This was revealed in a tender notice issued by the government on Wednesday, which said it will be inviting sealed bids for the supply and installation of radar and camera border security surveillance equipment.

According to the notice, the proposed works will include the equipment being installed at strategic locations across the territory which must also possess the ability to track detected objects.

“The system should be designed to include/utilise existing towers, which will provide infrastructure to be installed in order to extend the communications to the relevant radar and cameras and on to the command centre,” the tender stated.

Certificates of Good Standing needed

In a media release from the Ministry of Finance, Procurement Coordinator Ishma Rhymer outlined the procedures which must be taken by all potential tenderers.

“Interested tenderers must submit Certificates of Good Standing from the BVI Social Security Board, National Health Insurance and the Inland Revenue Department. Other relevant documents are also outlined in the tender document including a Schedule of Works, Supply and Installation, Technical Capacity and Delivery Schedule,” she said.

Rhymer also stated that bidding documents will be sent to bidders electronically once they send a request to the email address [email protected], with the subject title, ‘Supply and Installation of Radar and Camera Border Security Surveillance Equipment for HM Customs’.

Virtual pre-tender meeting

Meanwhile, a virtual pre-tender meeting will be held for all prospective bidders on Wednesday, December 2, at 10 am. These bidders will be notified of the access code and password prior to the meeting.

The tender will be opened the following Wednesday at the Procurement Unit in the Ministry of Finance. All tenderers are invited to witness this process via ‘Webex’ and will be provided with the access code and password prior to the opening.

Let’s hope that US Border Control do not continue with the madness of running the perpetrators back into our waters to the detriment of our public purse.

I thought the UK was putting in a system that they could monitor remotely. Might be nice to have another set of eyes on this mess. Otherwise we end up with the fox in the chicken coop again.

Where is the British Ship? Why bother with cameras when you can keep detaining random sailors for ransom? So those providing the camera surveillance equipment will be in a perfect position to be the smugglers?

God can’t help the BVI while the Government continues to abuse innocent seafarers. God can’t help the BVI while the Government ignores the poorest of the poor who have lost their jobs due to Covid and can’t pay their bills or buy decent food.

BVI as we knew it is FINISHED. And we thought the NDP was a disaster?? Now most all the BVI charter fleet has moved to the USVI. And I doubt they will ever come back, why should they??

Banana Republic with huge amount of desperately poor people is no place to run a tourist business.

Crime is now ruling the BVI, shootings high day. Carry on . . . as if nothing at all is wrong. The Emperor with no clothes, is our leader. Everyone is laughing and crying.
