New prison boss being sought at HMP

Her Majesty’s Prison in Balsam Ghut.

The local government is once again in search of a Superintendent of Prison to head operations at His Majesty’s Prison in Balsam Ghut.

A vacancy notice is currently being advertised for the post on the government’s official website.

The vacancy opened on April 3 this year and is expected to run for one month.

News of this vacancy follows the appointment of Guy-Michel Hill as the new head of the prison back in July 2021. He was contracted to serve in the post for two years; which means his existing contract expires on July 3 of this year. It is not clear why the BVI local was not given a longer contract.

The Superintendent of Prison is responsible for the efficient management and operation of the rehabilitation facility.

The prison has struggled in recent years with staffing issues, violent incidents among inmates — at least one of which was fatal, and contraband getting smuggled into the Balsam Ghut-based facility.

When 95% of your staff see you as a failure, don’t have respect for you because they see you as clue less about the Jib and is not a good listener time to run away quickly..

  11. Mybit says:

You could say whatever you want, Guy Hill could handle that situation well , If they would let him do it. BUT if you give a person something to do, let him do just what you give him to do, don’t leave your stall and want to tell him how he should do it. The Job is his. If you want to do it then you should take up the Position. You allow me because you know i could handle it.
That is a one Hill that the Politicians cannot climb up on.

  12. Norris Turnbull says:

At bad fit… when 95% of your staff is compromised or corrupt what’s there to fix or trust in them. A lot of you gasso people talk a lot of s**t about hill. But still beg for promotions. Talk that.

  13. Desmond Hodge says:

All who working in the prison and are undermining Mr.Hill. Now is the time to prove your metal and apply for the dam job what none of you qualify for. Either put up or shut the hell up. Trying to attack the man character speaks volumes of your ignorance.

  14. Resident says:

  16. Florencia Smith says:

My fellow BVIslanders, we are mouthpiece of criticism when it comes to our own people. Not all persons are bad or a failure, Sometimes before we come on and blog these ill-fated negative words about our own, put ourselves in that persons position and see if we could better handle the situation any differently. The outsiders are looking on and see we are unable to stick together on any issue and are always willing to condemn our own and hence they prey on our weaknesses. I implore you my fellowmen to rethink how we bring down others with our negative talks. Proverbs 18:21 says ‘Death and Life is in the power of the tongue and those who love to talk will eat its fruit”. Sometime I am so saddened by what we have become in this Natures little Secret!!!

  17. Hmmm... says:

The govt talk transparency and truth but when you getsomeone who gives you that it is not well received. I dont live here but i am from here. Mr Hill comes from good people. The prison didnt just get the way it is. Mr Hill inherited corruption. Corruption is not easily fixed. The way I see it get rid of root of the problem .. corrupt officers. ?How many BVIIslsnders want the headache of running the prison? .I am following the election and i havent heard any politician speak about the prison and how they can help make changes. Lets stop beating down and honest man for an entity that has been neglected for yearz

Think about it…Who makes up 95% of the staff? Why would they want Mr Hill there?

  19. Sam says:

    Bumpy for the post.
