New tropical storm forms in Atlantic, weather system not expected to impact BVI

Tropical Storm Sebastian is now the latest storm to have developed in the Atlantic Ocean but is not expected to impact the British Virgin Islands.

This was revealed in the latest weather advisory from the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) on Tuesday, November 19.

“At 11 am, the centre of Tropical Storm Sebastien was located near latitude 20.1 north, longitude 58.7 west or approximately 391 miles northeast of the British Virgin Islands,” the DDM stated.

It further said, “based on Sebastien’s location and current movement, the system is not expected to have any effect on the territory.”

According to the DDM, Sebastien is moving north-northwesterly near eight miles per hour and is forecast to turn to the north on Wednesday, November 20.

The DDM also said another turn in a northeasterly direction is expected during the course of Wednesday, with an increase in forwarding speed during the night.

“Maximum sustained winds are near 45 miles per hour with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is possible over the next day or so. Sebastien is expected to become absorbed by a cold front in a couple of days,” the DDM added.

Mother nature had to send off a warning shot, eh? Like “Don’t get too comfortable. Next year gonna be more active, so make sure you prepare!”
