No Limit Construction signs $400K contract for AO Shirley lights

The government has signed a contract worth $409,837.67 with No Limit Construction Services Ltd for the installation of a new lighting system at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground.

The Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) said the agreement marked another milestone in the development of the territory’s sports infrastructure and confirmed that the installation of lighting fixtures at the national stadium was covered.

“The contract, valued at $409,837.67, has been awarded to No Limit Construction Services Ltd,” an RDA Facebook post stated.

During the signing ceremony, Education Minister Sharie de Castro welcomed the start of the long-awaited project and expressed thanks that it is now moving forward. She highlighted the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground as the most active sporting and recreational facility in the territory and pointed to the impact the upgrade is expected to have on athletes, students and the wider community.

The RDA said that once the works are completed, the facility is expected to meet IAAF Class 2 standards. It added that the upgraded lighting will support safe and modern use of the grounds for sports and recreation.

The A O Shirley Recreation Ground is described by the government as the premier location for sports training and competitions in the territory, hosting track and field, soccer and rugby.

The new award follows an earlier phase of works at the venue. In January 2020, the Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) signed two contracts worth a combined $860,233.14 with C W General Maintenance and Caribbean Environmental Restoration Limited for stadium lighting and grandstand repairs as part of the wider A.O. Shirley project.

According to the release, the lighting contract is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground as a key venue for sport and community activities in the Virgin Islands.

Another VIP crony. Only their cronies are getting contracts. The governor need to keep a close eye on the spending of the 100M loan most of which went to the Works ministry. He would find some interesting things.

There must be good reasoning why people get these contracts.

Some one somewhere is getting value for money but it never seems to be the VI people.
