No more noise at ESHS’s Pasea Estate campus, occupants at ease since building fixed

The jarring buzz of noisy classrooms in chaotic unison was usually the first thing to notice whenever someone stepped into the former CTL building in Pasea Estate during school hours.

But since undergoing refurbishments, the noise in that building — which is temporarily housing senior students of the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) — has dramatically reduced.

Pastoral Principal Donna Clyne-Thomas told BVI News the noise was extremely loud because of the open classroom ceilings.

“No noise now. If you go from zero to 10 on a scale without the ceilings, it was above 10. And with the ceilings now, we are at negative zero,” Clyne-Thomas explained as she played a recording of what inside the building sounded like before the repairs.

Overall conditions of the building improved

Clyne-Thomas also said the overall conditions of the building have considerably improved; making it a better environment for both students and teachers to operate.

“Every hole has been repaired with plywood and not sheetrock. Every ceiling has been covered, every bathroom has been facelifted, painted, the dispensers and everything is working, every classroom has a brand new door with a brand new lock and its painted in royal blue. Every wall is painted in the school colour — gold. All desks that are in the rooms have been repaired, the air conditioning is booming and all exit signs have been fitted,” the please administrator said.

Along with having walls that unfavourably carried sound throughout all corners of the building in previous years, the makeshift school facility — which operated on a shift system — was also afflicted with inadequate restroom facilities.

The problems were addressed after the Recovery & Development Agency had awarded a $245,848.80 contract to DE Property Development to renovate of the building.

In the meantime, junior ESHS students are now housed inside the freshly-renovated L-shaped building at the school’s original Road Town campus.

Thank God they got it fixed. The crowding and noise level could be a factor in some of the class of 2019 not doing well. All the best for the new year to The Principal, teachers, staff and students.

Students and parents MUST be held accountable for damages to the building. What a continuous waste of money and effort replacing and repairing the building. These are not 5yrs old. And forget about too much children in a small place!! We are ALWAYS NEVER GREAT FULL FOR WHAT WE HAVE!!

student you crazy with the AC man. most of us went to school in the L shape building back then with none. Hold brakes, one day at a time

      • @haha says:

The windows are smaller now than they were in your day. There was $400,000.00 contract signed for the AC for the L shape building. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

    • Hmmm says:

Yall kids pushing for AC when we originally had a good amount of class rooms where 20 something of us had to rely on the door being open to get breeze, as the windows could not open. I left ESHS prior to Irma so not that it is not some many years ago I am referring to. They should get fans for y’all though, while I do agree with the other things like getting water coolers and such, installing AC units can happen at a later date.
