No ‘relevant evidence’ destroyed in boat burning – Police

Officers of the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service attempting put out the blaze on the vessel, ‘Donzi’, which was seized by the RVIPF the day before.

A boat that was set ablaze earlier today in the compound of the Road Town Police Station will not stop police from proceeding with their investigations into a recent drug bust.

That was the response issued by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) moments ago after reports first surfaced about an early morning arson at the station.

According to the RVIPF, inquiries into the significant cocaine seizure, as well as the firearm, boat and ammunition detained during the operation on Wednesday, 19 July, will continue, despite efforts of what they described as criminal elements to disrupt those investigations.

The vessel, ‘Donzi’, which was seized is suspected to be the one that was ramming the police vessel at sea during the operation.

But police said all necessary examinations were completed by the RVIPF, and no relevant evidence was destroyed in the fire which was committed “in a calculated effort to destroy evidence”.

The RVIPF said it wishes to renew its appreciation for the support and continued cooperation in the investigation which remains dynamic as investigators continue to pursue several lines of inquiry.

Police also expressed gratitude for the support of law-abiding members of the community which it described as reassuring, adding that this sustains an unwavering determination to continue efforts to keep serving and protecting the Virgin Islands.

The force added that efforts to bring offenders to justice continue and will not be derailed by those who hope to escape detection and prosecution.

Investigators have asked that anyone who has useful information contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or anonymously through the Crimestoppers hotline number 800-8477-(TIPS)

It matter not whether evidence was or was not destroyed – The mere FACT that arsenal can take place right on the police grounds where the perimeters should be safe, speaks volume to the ineptitude of the entire Police force to serve and protect us as a territory .
This act shows the “ dumbness “ of the Administration-
the lack of proper proactive enforcement to keep our police compound safe
The lack of foresight on the commissioner to have surveillance cameras around the perimeter of the station so the area can be monitored
The lack of proper scheduling to have policemen on the beat to guard the headquarters.
Then where can we be safe ????
But we can rape the country and squander money on wall, breast reduction, one family member getting several grants from
Various politicians, ilkegal activities and families mouth zip
    .
This nation is in bigger trouble than i think

Evidence destroyed or not, that was slackness from the police after all the hard work to capture those criminals. Imagine if the fire had burn the station down. Why wasn’t anyone on guard to watch the boat during the Night??? Hope this helps the police to secure the station AND evidence BETTER.

If you believe there was “no evidence” destroyed and that the cops who set the fire are not on the drug runners payroll then I have some free waterfront property for you….meet me at low tide. The Gang That Can’t Shoot Straight makes these people look inept!!

  11. Nonsense says:

What do you really expect the Police to say? They are so ashamed that this happened right on their doorstep so of course they will try to save face talking about evidence already taken. Anybody that believes the Police did a FULL and THOROUGH search of that entire vessel in just a few hours must be a damn jackass. The boat is GONE and surely will have an impact on prosecuting the case.

After confiscating these small drug boats please store them inside a secure building NOT in plain sight in an outdoor car park.

  14. Mervyn says:

    Umm.

The name of the boat is not Donzi. That’s the name of the manufacturer.

    Report better

  15. Jane says:

Police got the time to make a big fuss to apply a dress code if you need to go in to the station: no shoulders to be on show because apparently this is offensive in 2023 – and you get told to put on a t-shirt. But yet someone can walk into, presumably with a bottle of gas, start a fire on a prize piece of evidence and walk away and no-one stops them and no-one saw anything.

Honestly, the Governor ought to be asking for the Police Commish to resign or if not sack him. This is beyond the pale.

  16. sample says:

we need to check the police camera footage to see which one of the officers do it…. lol thing to talk about.
