Nurses benefit from development workshop

Nurse managers, nursing supervisors and charge nurses across the territory have completed a three-day leadership development workshop aimed at strengthening patient care and improving clinical leadership within the British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority (BVIHSA).

The workshop, held from June 22 to 24, was delivered in partnership with Healthcare Transformation Solutions (HTS), a clinician-led healthcare consulting firm specialising in leadership development, healthcare transformation and performance improvement.

According to the BVIHSA, the initiative forms part of its broader strategy to improve patient outcomes by investing in frontline healthcare leaders and building organizational capacity through strategic partnerships.

Participants received practical training on identifying operational challenges, implementing evidence-based solutions, improving team engagement and leading quality improvement initiatives within their respective clinical units.

Director of Nursing Services Pearla Sylvester-Thomas said the workshop represents an important investment in the future of healthcare delivery.

“Quality patient care begins with strong leadership. By equipping our Nurse Managers and Charge Nurses with the skills and tools to lead improvement initiatives, we are strengthening our ability to deliver safe, efficient, and patient-centered care across the organisation,” she said.

Chief Nursing Officer in the Ministry of Health and Social Development, Jacinth Hannibal, said developing nursing leadership is essential to building a resilient healthcare system and improving health outcomes for residents.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Vincent Wheatley said investing in healthcare professionals through partnerships such as this ultimately strengthens the quality of care delivered to the community.
