Well one boat had to give way to the other. Better arrest a passenger on the stand-on boat and then get B* B* to fix a case against him.

Even if the smaller vessel was by definition the give-way vessel the larger vessel is at large in fault. The large vessel is in violation of multiple rules, Rule 6 safe speed and even rule 5. The larger vessel put the boating public at risk and killed someone. This is a travesty.

5 knots in anchorage and mooring fields.
All vessels must have signal lights if traveling at nights.

  6. SailorMan says:

Correction – the dinghy does not need to display navigation lights, but an all-around white light at night according to the COLREGs

And, can we have a name, and picture, of the victim?

Maybe it’s time for a new BVI law that mandates a boat speed of 5 kts on less at night and during times of restricted visibility in all BVI waters.

Another cover up of Black on Black crime. Blacks have no worth as evidenced by their callous deaths by each other.
Reason why those involved boat (photos)including the deceased a no mentionnp names.
The boat incident in West End not so long ago where a woman and infant
as passengers lost their life while the Captains still.livkn the life…no charges no photos

When are we going to get 6 MPH markers in our harbors and when are we going to start enforcing them. This will continue to happen until we take the steps to make our anchorages safer.

Condolences to the deceased family, friends and others. As a small island the finance involve in having our waterways regulated and secured from smuggling of migrants and drugs is enormous. It sounds good however the cost is astronomical. Even the mothership is struggling to finance her agencies.

This is tragic news. Such a heartbreaking story. Thoughts and condolences to all involved.

I was involved in an accident over in Marigot Bay, SXM over 10 years ago, on dusk – where a boat returning to Simpson Bay collided with us. They were the give way vessel, I was in a coma on life support for 8 days, and then 8 months recovery, and extremely lucky to be alive (albeit without some internal organs, and some hefty scars as a reminder)

This is real. People need to adhere to the rules, safe speed is crucial, and when visibility is limited there is no room for complacency.

Aside from apportioning blame or who was actually in the wrong here, someone has died. People have lost a family member, a friend.

  15. EV says:

Wyte people need to stop getting drunk and boating in the dark.

As on land, so to there must laws and penalties enacted for boating while drunk.

This is becoming a regular occurence that is now requiring law makers full attenion.

The person who died was a boat captain and a very careful good one at that. He left behind a fiance’ and many many great friends along with family. He always boats/sails 100% sober and to the T. This is a tragic incident.
