Online registration for COVID vaccine temporarily suspended

The Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital in Road Town

Following the overwhelming response from residents willing to take the vaccine in the territory, the Ministry of Health & Social Development has announced that its online registration portal will be temporarily suspended for one week.

A late-night bulletin from the ministry on Wednesday said the closure is to facilitate the scheduling of appointments for all residents who fall into the Phase I category.

Phase I includes “health care and frontline workers such as Public and Private Health Care, Police Force, Fire and Rescue Department, Immigration Department, Her Majesty’s Customs, Ports Authority, BVI Airports Authority, Red Cross, VISAR and Mortuary Workers”.

“During this time, the registration form will also be updated to accommodate the subsequent phases and dates. The form will become available on Wednesday, February 24 at 10 am,” the ministry stated.

It added: “Vaccination efforts will continue at the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital in Road Town, the Nurse Iris O’Neal Medical Centre on Virgin Gorda and the Rosalind Penn Health Centre in East End for residents who fall into Phase One from 10 am to 3 pm.”

The Health Ministry is also urging all persons who do not fall in the priority phases to allow the phases to be completed before applying for an appointment to be vaccinated.

All persons seeking information on the phases and the vaccination roll-out programme are asked to visit www.bvi.gov.vg/covid-19, email [email protected] or call during office hours of 8 am to 5 pm at 468-2286 or 468-2287.

Total screw up. In any proper government the Minister responsible for this fiasco would be made to resign.

      Typical BVI fashion…

Can’t handle the situation, turn people away. It’s the way we do things here.

      Get used to it.

    • Lmao says:

The Foy and the ministers are just trying to figure out how to make some money off of it. Once that is accomplished the vaccine appointments and scheduling will run like a well oiled machine. However, just like everything in the BVI, if the ones in charge can’t make money and it don’t benefit them then it will be a nightmare to get the vaccine.

Yet they are doing sooo much better than the U.K. and other countries in the world in stopping the spread of this virus. You know why? Because Jesus is in control, not the government!

Remember Honorable Carvin Malone, once a vial is thawed and, even more so, once its seal is punctured and the first dose is drawn, those administering the vaccine are in a race to use it up before it spoils ̶ even if it means giving shots to those who don’t fit into the priority list.
You might end up having to throw away a lot of those 8000 doses due to spoilage. That would be huge waste! Get jabs in arms now!

Wow. What kind of headline is this buddy? You mean to tell me they have to take down the registration portal because a thousand people signed up for a vaccine?

Well I didn’t register yet, but I better go down to the hospital and beg for a shot now because if they can’t handle distribution of 8,000 vaccines what the hell are they going to do if 25 people flock into the hospital with COVID? Hold their head and run? We in some real trouble in this country. God help us all.

  8. THINK ABOUT THIS says:

A LOT OF PLACES THAT HAVE THE VACCINE,PEOPLE WITH MONEY IS PAYING MONEY TO JUMP AHEAD OF THE LINE.EXAMPLE, OPRAH WINFREY SPIN TRAINER WENT TO STATEN ISLAND THE DAY THEY WERE GIVING THE VACCINE TO NYC PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS, SHE LIED ABOUT BEING A TEACHER AND GOT THE VACCINE. A MILLIONAIRE COUPLE WENT TO A HOTEL AND PRETEND THAT THEY WERE WORKING AT THE HOTEL TO GET THE VACCINE AND WAS CAUGHT.I AM NOT, I REPEAT, AM NOT SAYING THIS IS THE CASE HERE, BUT IT IS SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

  9. Yassuh says:

BVI gubmint can’t arrange a proper goat screwing or a one car funeral without some sort of ridiculous complications. Maybe give CSC a couple hundred grand in consultancy fees to tink bout it good.

  12. Anonymous says:

If they had the right ppl leading this thing, it would have been nothing to build a system where ppl can register, be sorted into manageable batches, assigned an appointment date and notified via txt or email…

but we got a bunch of big brains who know everything and leading everything. No planning, no expertise.

  13. 8000 says:

you want to vaccinate the first 8000 persons yuh say…well why not keep it moving while they willing and coming in like droves before they change their mind…just wondering out loud
