Opposition Leader: Premier chose power over people in 2022
Opposition Leader Myron Walwyn has stated that Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley was hungry for power in 2022 when he accepted the Commission of Inquiry (COI) recommendations that the UK handed down after months of research into governance in the territory.
The Sixth District Representative has long held the view that the BVI should not have accepted the COI labels and recommendations.
But during The Alliance radio show on April 23, Walwyn explicitly placed the blame on then-acting Premier Dr Wheatley, painting a picture of a power-hungry political aspirant who opened the door for the “corrupt” label that the UK continues to attach to the territory.
“I know certainly there was an Acting Premier (in 2022) who was in the room more than anybody else and I get the feeling there was more attention on ascending to political power than there was to understand the recommendation and coming and speaking to the people,” Walwyn said frankly.
He noted that Premier Wheatley continues to express outrage whenever the UK publishes reports that paint a negative picture of the BVI, even though he was the one who accepted the COI reforms and opened the door for subsequent bashing from the colonial power.
“When you hear the Premier speaking in the House of Assembly — even on this very report (review of law enforcement agencies) — he’s acting as if he’s brand new like he doesn’t know the report was done pursuant to the COI report that he accepted. It didn’t just fall from the sky,” Walwyn reiterated.
Recently, during a sitting of the House of Assembly, Walwyn again cast blame on the leaders who accepted the COI report in 2022. However, Premier Wheatley rejected the blame, maintaining that elected leaders did what was best for the territory at that time.
He also said that the casting of blame is unpatriotic and that such comments are unbecoming of the person holding the post of Opposition Leader.

LOL look who talking about’ hungry for power’ you cannot hold a light to our beloved Premier Hon Wheatley you classless ingrate.
You mean the same Premier that has the country in a mess? You serious whoever you are?
Yup, I thought it was fishy too. S!0wW@nde chose to snuggle up to the UK rather than his own people. He is clearly their man. But then again they all have
Finally somebody had the courage to speak the truth. This is exactly what Natalio did. He saw an opportunity to become Premier after his master Andrew got arrested. He accepted all the recommendations without hesitation to become Premier and now trying to tell us that he accepted them to save our democracy. Pure crap
Mr. Walwyn, they going keep saying you are a island man that was born in the little island of Tortola, that means you you ain’t got right saying nothing!! You always wrong in dem illiterate people sight.
He was more concerned about becoming Premier. He and his brother orchestrated all this mess.
It doesn’t matter to some how many examples of corruption there are they are determined not to change. You and your corrupt politician friends are why we are nownlabelled corrupt. We are led by death dumb and blind donkeys and you seem to be determined to be at the front on the dirt track.
saying he was just hungry for power is a bit of an oversimplification to me; and I not no fan of the premier. Maybe he was hungry for power but at the same time BVI’s wasn’t in the best position to negotiate after head coach get lock up for drugs if I recall the options were a suspended constitution and they send their people to change whatever they see fit or we do it ourselves within a specific timeframe. I think this hungry for power statement is a lil bit of pot calling kettle black. Like the premier hungry for power but he is not. All of you hungry for power is what I see.
Walwyn always playing politics let us not forget we were on the brink of direct rule how is that hungry for power? there was no power to have lol. You were hungry for power prior, during and after the recent election let us not try to rewrite history
If you could say with a straight face that you are proud of Natalio’s mediocre performance in running the affairs of the BVI then it’s either you have no standards or you have no idea what good performance is. Take a look around? Look at the infrastructure. Examine the economy. Look at agriculture. Look at tourism. Look at the treatment of our seniors and pensioners. Just look! If after you look and you are still proud of your Premier then I suggest that you find the nearest mental facility and check yourself in. If anyone of those two leaders could be deemed as classless it certainly would not be Myron. Look again
They were hungry for money mostly. Power and control were incidental perks.
Today, in every district the white envelope has replaced political leadership.
The people has only FAKE REPRESENTATION,from the 1st to the 9th and beyond.
There will be no change for the people in Dist. 9 other than publishing a few well camera staged events for a few seniors, while the majority, seniors and others are sucking salt, and otherwise are suffering, perhaps for many years to come.
Today their major motivations are making more money, living large and presenting an image of hygenic politics. Disgusting!
Sadly, the white envelopes sheep, pocket fillers, crooks and others will give DERSERVING where it should be rejected.
We have no political hygeine or emphaty in our politics today. Our politics, from the inception to office of this team has been FOULER than any sewage running in the streets now, but hey will re recelected rather than replaced and the filth of neglect and psuedo political representation will continue to run throughout the territory.
Chose you now, progress or putrified streets, roads and rich officials!!
Hon. Walwyn be careful because this would also mean Hon. Turnbull was thirsty to be a Minister as well under the Unity Government as he was walking lock in step with Hon. Wheatley. We don’t want the mortar without the pestle. Stop it! Every single one of you are power hungry and yearning for the perks of being Premier/Ministers, let us call a spade a spade.
