Order in Council might not be lifted till May 2024

Governor Rankin

It might not be till a little more than one year’s time before the United Kingdom (UK) lifts the feared Order in Council that is currently being held in reserve in the UK parliament.

The Order in Council facilitates for Britain to implement direct control of the BVI if the local government fails to implement a series of reforms to correct serious governance failures found to be happening in the territory.

The government has so far completed 20 of 48 recommended reforms, and according to Governor John Rankin’s latest quarterly review of the progress, the government has missed multiple reform deadlines.

While sharing the UK’s response to his review, Rankin said UK Minister of Overseas Territories Lord Zac Goldsmith agrees with his conclusion that serious efforts and clear prioritisation of time and resources are required to pick up the pace to deliver the reform that the people of the BVI want and deserve.

“Some adjustments to the deadlines in the Framework Document will be required. The Premier has asked for eleven extensions to deadlines in areas for which he is responsible, and I have asked for two. Minister Goldsmith has consequently asked me, following the upcoming General Election, to agree with the next BVI Government a refreshed timetable for the delivery of the remaining recommendations and reforms in the Framework document,” Rankin stated.

He added: “This should include ambitious yet achievable deadlines to ensure that the necessary reforms have taken root no later than May 2024. If that can be achieved that should allow the UK Order in Council to be lifted.”

He further noted that the UK Minister has made it clear that the Order can be lifted sooner if the implementation can be achieved more quickly.

“The staff in my office and I will do all we can to support the implementation work,” Rankin stated.

I’m tired of the place being run like the wild wild west and majority of residents actually support criminal activities. The BVI was built and financed by drug money and some of you are quite proud to say it. The place is in desperate need of a good clean up!! And whoever running that Mika Barry page got more guts than all of you put together. I waiting on customs to take action against the big hardback predators who are there preying on the young women and everybody looking the other way because of who the men are. Your nastiness will come to an end one way or the next!!!

Not in no way shape or form condoning illicit forms of business, but have you any knowledge of the main pilliars that built America, Europe,UK and many, many other countries? Yes, human bondage, drugs and insane corruption. Do some indepth research and educate thyself. Begin with the founding fathers and others of that great country on the hill. Tell us what you find.

The narrative is closed, clearly misinformed and. one sided.

The BVI is not immune, but don’t try to paint the negative that it is the evil empire on the block. Please there is enough evidence to prove otherwise.

This place was never UK’s to take in the first place. Be reminded, it was stolen from other people who were exterminated by them. Further, your narrative onhere are from another time and era, the colonial era.

We have moved on from then.. There is a population here of 31,000.00 or more local descendants of wealth producers for the UK who were brutally inbondage and laboured and never were paid a pence. Will they bring the payments checks when they are coming?

Do the people that are have been here since bondage days till todaymaking UK rich for free have no rights to these lands ater centuries of living on them?? No, you feel that you are entitled to these lands, but you need the UK’s might to do it for you. We have rights to buddy.

Your colonialistic attitude view and hatred and disrespect for us is foul as your septic tank. Please leave.

Africans in the Diaspora were systematically prevented from reading, writing, speaking their languages and practicing their culture and traditions for centuries.

Do you wish to bring back such oppression to the Virgin Islands and its people again. It is believed that is so?

We have not forgotten that history, and we will not allow no English man to come back here and render us less than human or people of a lesser God. Never, never again!! We have earned, more so than any English man alive today, all rights to be here, live in peace and chart our own course without the Englishman interference.

The colonial era is over sir.So sit back, drink your tea, eat your mushie peas and leave us to hell alone!!

Its fairly simple. If you dont get it, here it is spelled out.

If the BVI re-elects the same set of cheese shop rats then the UK is eventually going to step in and take over.

It BVI sees sense and boots the rats and elects a new fresh start government then they wont.

From the report the Unity Government got between an F for fail and U for ungradable.

Just shameful that these cats agreed to the timelines then didn’t even try. Enquiring minds want to know what is actually in these Statutory Board reviews that the Government does not want to release…must be more failing grades

  12. ned says:

You. Who claim this country was built on illicit means does not know what you are talking about. When our parents were working hard where were you.? You people who want to get rich quick and want to be like others are the reason for our problem. This was a clean country strving by hard work until some who think they were smart start accepting contraband from off our shores and allow greed to set in.. Be careful what you ask for. All that glitters is not gold.

Your Excellency, please release these report which the VIP are trying to hide from us. We demand to see these reports.

Additionally, Governor please stay vigilant as it is on the street that the green candidates in the fourth and seventh districts are sharing money to people to vote for them. They are buying votes and the people are talking saying they receive money to vote. Find out where is this money coming from? Who is feeding it in the green team? Use both the local and British police on this urgent matter

When we plant evil seeds of malice, mingling truth with lies, hate people because of their nationality. glossing over some political leaders criminal behaviour, but spreading lies on some , pull-down wool over our eyes to wrong doing but sling trump up mud on others is creating chaos among the population especially the voting public . As leaders and educators we need to stop

The Governor is doing his job . The government took the responsibility to get the plans in place . He is not interfering in the elections .
It is the time for his quarterly review . He has to hold the Premier to his word to meet the deadlines
If the Premier Mr Wheatley cannot work with his people to meet these deadlines. Can he run a successful four years ?
My people the evidence is there . Think for yourself

The UK and Governor are again interfering in the elections. That is clear. Why is the Governor doing this now just before election? Clearly he wants to tip the scales. Colonialism in full effect.

So everyone is going to pile on Sowande and VIP, pretending that Mitch Turnbull and Marlon Penn are not Ministers of the Unity Govt who were tasked to meet said deadlines? Come on now!

I would easily bet that Mitch and Marlon are the reasons they met some deadlines in the first place and Slowande is the reason why the majority is still outstanding. He is the leader, the one who say he can lead for the next 4 years. Truth is, he cannot lead and is not a leader.

  23. Simple says:

Simply the BVI has to get it’s act together or the UK will take over…. In May 2024. UK granted the BVI the opportunity to fix their mess which has been an embarrassing attempt. We need the UK to take over
    End the charade.
