Organisers of East End Rise & Shine Tramp considering band clash next year

The East End/Long Look leg of the Rise & Shine Tramp may see a possible clash between bands on the road during next year’s festivities.

Chairwoman of the East End/Long Look Festival Sub-committee Sandra Potter gave that indication in a recent interview with BVI News.

Potter said the idea of a band clash came via suggestions from some of the event’s supporters.

“As opposed to both bands going up one steady behind the other, maybe we have them come from different directions and let there be a clash because people seem to enjoy a clash between bands,” Potter stated.

“That was one of the most popular suggestions from some of the revellers. Next year maybe we can have one band come from the westerly direction and the other from the easterly direction and meet somewhere in the middle,” she explained.

A number of persons who attended the August 7 event this year seemed to be hoping for a clash after the two participating bands — Nu Vybes and joint Road March winners VIBE — ended up adjacent to each other at one stage of the J’ouvert.

It was at that point that some revellers began chanting the word “clash” in anticipation of a musical battle between both bands.

    Good idea, wrong venue.

Return to classic band-o-ramas (competition) of the past.

And invite international bands to the competition also.

Vibrations, Vino-Mar-Sonics and others use to go to St. Thomas to compete against Milo and the Kings, Swinging stars, Ellie Matt and a host of others. One year it was held there and the other here.

Assign that competiition to the village on one of the normal slow nights.

It will be a win-win all around. This will enhance the average or otherwise dead village night.

Every generation has and lives its experienced greatness, great moments, great bands, great music and subsequent great memories.

Question is, which generation created the greatest of all of the above?

Historical analysis indicates that, none of the above did. The predecessors of those groups actually produced the greatest music ever created in the VI’S.

Was a waste of money bringing in that St Kitts Band. But we all know how they get in our Rise & Shine. Our local band Vibe could have hold the crowd. Also Rise & Shine is not a revenue generating event so why spend so much of taxpayers money into this event. We need to take a few pages out of the Carot Bay Festival and just keep it simple and sweet.
