Over 40 gov’t workers reassigned to Social Distancing Task Force

As the British Virgin Islands work on combatting COVID-19, more than 40 public servants have been re-assigned as Social Distancing officers and Acting Environmental Health officers for the next year.

Deputy Governor David Archer, Jr issued the letters of appointment to the officers on Wednesday.

The officers will be assigned to the four main islands of the territory — Tortola, Jost Van Dyke, Anegada, and Virgin Gorda.

Strict enforcement

While announcing Thursday night that the territory only recorded one new positive COVID-19 case and 20 additional recoveries from the virus, Health Minister Carvin Malone endorsed the reassignments.

“The Environmental Health Division and its newly-revamped Social Distancing Task Force will be fully deployed over the coming days to actively monitor compliance and strictly enforce the suppression measures for businesses, other establishments, and all persons in public places,” the minister said.

“Once again, we strongly urge all members of the public to comply with all established health and safety protocols and dial 311 to report any suspicious activity. We must remember to take personal responsibility and hold each other accountable for adherence to the Public Health measures that have been put in place to suppress and control the COVID-19 virus,” Malone added.

He also reminded residents to contact the Medical Hotline at 284-852-7650 if they begin to experience any symptoms related to COVID-19.

Common symptoms include fever, cough, headache, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, muscle aches, or difficulty breathing.

These people will be sitting home or under a tree doing nothing except collecting a check. On the other hand some will be hassling people they don’t like or competitors of their relatives. This will do absolutely nothing. Smoke and mirror show by the government just like everything they have been doing.

All noise again. Boats still sliding into Road Harbour in the night. Call, get the run around. Ask for my phone number, I say like you are the police, for sure you can see my number. Oh, this number is not from here, as he reads it. Me, yes it is. Me, why you wasting all this time, that boat landed, and unloaded what or whoever they wanted.

Next night hear boat sliding in again, not bothering to call, cos those cops are lazy and have no intention of doing anything.

Government workers take 2 days to walk across the room. Unless they are assigned to businesses all day every day, with badges on we won’t be seeing them.

My advice is put them in the food departments of the grocery stores cos those cooking and handling fresh food mostly have their noses out or masks off. I don’t know how this Corona hasn’t spread by take out and bars. Oops, I suppose it has.

Also I went to the DMV and most of the people behind the glass did not have on masks. . . Government workers can’t mind themselves.

Went to the Prison before this lockdown, and no one inside except the person on the gate and only the officer in the visitation room has on a mask. Period. When I ask about it some of them tell me they can’t breathe. . . . Government workers can’t mind themselves.

More money for a few VIP supporters. Watch.

And lastly, reassigned from where? So the BVI Government has 40 workers, full time workers, 40 of them, to just have them drop their meaning?ful work to monitor, and perhaps FINE, the public.
Where are they coming from? The Prison, DMV lol? Will these 40 be wearing a mask, cos we already know BVI Government workers don’t wear masks. That might be why all those police got Covid. . . Carry On BVI

Can you not assign these people to do something actually useful?

Maybe they know how to tarmac roads or run an internet service provider, or know how to install a snubber at the incinerator, or know how to keep the electricity on, or know how to fix the sewage on island and in the sea?

No? Well no-one else seems to know how to do these things here either…
