The Department of Waste Management (DWM) has been gifted with a brand new 2018 International 7600 SBA garbage compactor by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
The keys were officially presented to DWM Manager Greg Massicotte this week.
According to a government media release, PAHO Consultant Ronnie Lettsome said the gift is to aid the British Virgin Islands in its thrust to control waste.
Meanwhile, Minister for Health and Social Development, Ronnie Skelton placed on record his government’s gratitude for the continued support from the regional organisation.
He said the truck was “well needed”.
In March, PAHO donated a garbage truck valued more than $200,000 to the DWM.
Additionally, over the past few months, PAHO has donated an estimated $1.3 million to support health response in the territory.
Their support included a number of vehicles to assist with hurricane recovery and to support vector control.
PAHO’s aim is to improve health and living standards of the people of the Americas.
