Panic move saves driver from gunman

A 29-year-old man narrowly escaped what appears to have been a brazen armed robbery attempt in Cane Garden Bay after instinctively accelerating his vehicle when confronted by a masked gunman carrying a high-powered rifle.

BVI News understands the frightening encounter unfolded shortly after midnight earlier this week as the man was leaving a party.

According to well-placed sources, the victim left the party around midnight. As he sat in the driver’s seat of his car, he was suddenly confronted by two masked men.

One of the suspects reportedly pointed what appeared to be a rifle directly at the victim through the vehicle’s windshield. Instead of remaining stationary, the startled motorist reportedly slammed on the accelerator and sped away from the scene.

It’s understood that the gunman tried to stop the moving vehicle but had to quickly retreat to prevent sustaining injuries himself. The matter was later reported to the police, who have since processed the victim’s vehicle for evidence and revisited the scene. Police have also identified several surveillance cameras in the area and are using the footage to assist with the investigation.

The latest incident comes amid ongoing concerns about violent crime across the territory. In recent months, the BVI has seen a series of daring robberies, including brazen daylight attacks on businesses in Road Town and robberies targeting people in various communities.

The incidents have renewed public debate over personal safety, with some residents and business owners arguing that law-abiding citizens should be allowed to carry licensed firearms for self-defence. Others, however, have cautioned that expanding access to firearms could create additional risks, insisting that stronger policing and crime prevention measures remain the better long-term solution.

I believe a tourist was brutally raped on Carambola beach and her boyfriend killed . It made international news then and that was before social media. I believe it was several incidents.

          • @Me too says:

That’s not factual. Please research before you post, hypothetical bs. There was even a movie and books on Fountain Valley; Carambola Resort was not around back then.

          • @@me too says:

You are right I was not factual it was 8 people murdered and 8 other wounded . So according to your clown logic it didnt happen on “Crambola beach” because that is not what it was called at the time . With that kind of bozo logic even thought the World trade Center is no longer called WTC the planes didnt fly into that building. So lets pretend that ST. Croix didnt have an issue .

          • @@@me too says:

Its that kind of logic that is used to justify the crime in the BVI : the jobs are all taken by expats so they dont have any way to earn a living, the govt not providing any training, when there are jobs they are being discrimiated against because they are black, all the other BS just like this person practically denyiny that this happened. with this thinking its not long efore it happens in BVI

Bad boys have guns. John & Jane Public have none (legally) and thus are at the mercy of these brazen wannabe thugs.

Another example of outdated laws to st have not kept pace with the realities of modern society and the risks now facing us. You cannot even go out to enjoy company without now having to watch over your shoulders. This isn’t the first or second time this has happened. Only select private citizens here can obtain legal gun license while the vast majority cannot. Yet as summer is here and festival looming, predators will be out hunting easy prey. That’s y’all folks!

Wait. February 26, 2026 – The office of the Premier of the British Virgin Islands has confirmed that the British Overseas Territory will now pursue full membership in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The BVI joined as an Associate Member in July, 1991.

So it would seem as an Associate Member, if we ever had any crooks (only those people without businesses or children) they also are Caricom Young Black perpetuating scum males.
