Paving completed on 4000 feet of West End roadway

The Ministry of Communications and Works has announced the completion of paving along 4,000 linear feet of roadway in West End, Tortola, with construction crews now concentrating on finishing the sidewalks by the end of October.

In a recent update posted on Facebook, the ministry thanked residents and motorists for their patience during construction, saying the improvements are intended to strengthen road infrastructure and improve safety for road users.

The completed paving follows the government’s announcement earlier this year of extensive rehabilitation works along the Sir Francis Drake Highway between Fort Recovery and Cox Heath.

The project included improvements to coastal defences, drainage infrastructure and the reconstruction of sections of the sea wall damaged by erosion and wave action.

At the time, Works Minister Kye Rymer said the improvements were intended to strengthen the roadway against storm surge and other weather-related threats.

The works form part of a broader nine-mile road rehabilitation programme extending from the Road Town Ferry Terminal to the West End Ferry Terminal.

In December 2025, the government signed a $14.08 million contract with Tortola Paving Company Limited to rehabilitate the corridor, describing it as the largest roadworks contract in the territory’s history.

The project includes improvements to road surfaces, kerb walls, coastal protection structures and road markings.

The government previously indicated that funding for the wider rehabilitation programme would come from its $100 million loan, which includes allocations for major infrastructure improvements across the territory.
