The Pediatric Wing at the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital on Tortola has benefitted from a bed linen donation.

The donation was made at the medical facility recently. Health and Social Development Minister Carvin Malone expressed gratitude for the gesture.

He said: “We want to thank BVI High School class of 1982, Seven Seas Water and DSC Trucking Services for the contribution that you have made and we invite like-minded persons to continue to give towards the development of health care in the territory.”

“As we expand the health services throughout the Virgin Islands we have to do all we can as a community and Government to ensure that we have the proper facilities, equipment and tools that we need to deliver excellent healthcare,” the minister added.

More donations are needed

In the meantime, Malone reminded residents that the Iris O’Neal Medical Centre on Virgin Gorda is also seeking donations.

And according to a media release from the Ministry of Health, “persons interested in contributing towards the legacy and improvement of health care services on Virgin Gorda can make a donation directly to the First Bank, Friends of the BVIHSA checking account 7292008218 or by filling out a pledge form on Virgin Gorda at the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic.”

Donations are also welcome via the BVI Health Services’ Marketing and Communications Unit at 852-7655 or via email at [email protected].

The VI government took over 10 years to construct a 100 room or whatever the number is Hospital for over a $100M yet it cannot meet basic needs, ie, bedding, furnishings, equipment, consumables……etc. Did we push our heads where our body cannot pass? The BVIHSA either poorly planned the outfitting of the hospital,ie, personnel(doctors, nurses, lab techs, dietitians, pharmacists…..etc), furnishing, equipment….etc or lacked the resources to do so? Either way it is in an unenviable position. Ok. The local government must prioritized meeting basic needs first, health, education, security, environmental……. I remember someone saying that the BVI does not have a money problem but a management problem? If so why some agencies are standing outside with a tin can?

Donations for health care facilities? These people are a set of f**ing jokers. Mo money for the most important things, but millions to lease the Lake’s buildings. Two years after the Hurricanes government could not at least repair a wing in the complex to house some of its offices? Corrupt set of bandits.

  9. Sad says:

When is donation to a worthy cause a bad thing. How is it wrong to ask persons for donations. Come on we need to do better. Some people seem to be only able to criticize, therefore be apart of the problem. Let us try and be apart of the solution.
