Penn calls for unity between East End and Long Look

Opposition Leader Marlon Penn

Eighth District Representative Marlon Penn has called for more unity between the neighbouring communities of East End and Long Look on Tortola, insisting that they must come together if they are to move forward successfully.

While giving remarks at a cultural event within the community recently, Penn bemoaned the fact that committees that were previously in place to hold events in the communities for the annual Emancipation Festival were no longer in existence and now need to be re-established.

“We have to get these committees back up and functioning and ensure that the standard that we deserve and grow accustomed to in East End/Long Look is restored,” Penn said.

Penn urged persons in the community to help with the initiative and said he has already spoken with the current District Representative for Long Look, Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley, about getting the committees restored.

“We need to put aside our partisan politics and do what is in the best interest of the East End Long Look community,” Penn said. “East End cannot move if Long Look doesn’t move.”

According to Penn, more things bind the two neighbouring villages than things that divide them.

The District Representative said he felt it was important for people to ensure the rich legacy and heritage of East End/Long Look is restored and enshrined in the minds of those who live there.

He said it was also necessary for younger persons who are coming forward who he suggested will ultimately be able to build on that rich legacy.

Penn urged that members of the community work collaboratively and collectively in the best interest of the community, its heritage and its people.

  7. @Hmmmmr says:

And if this is the case, which it is not, then he is mature. That’s a true leader. But if you rewind on certain things he put difference in political views behind to help form the coalition government and although they kept him in the dark even then he kept his composure for the benefit of this territory. If he had left it alone you all next thing would have been that he’s not contributing to moving forward. Well here you have it Hon. Penn sees what’s happening. If people from all sides don’t step up this Premier will sink all ah we. Good job Hon. Penn
