PHOTOS: Governor, residents report good fun at 2019 Easter Parade

This year’s staging of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival was fun-filled, despite being curtailed, residents have said.

The just-concluded festival climaxed with roughly 10 troupes participating in the Easter Parade and subsequent village entertainment on Monday.

Governor Augustus Jaspert who was present for the festivities told BVI News that it was his first time attending the event on the sister island.

“I took the pleasure of going with my family, and we went to see the parade. The people were having fun, they had great costumes and great music.”

“It was also great to see Virgin Gorda having bounced back and looking pristine again, and people were enjoying themselves and having a good time. It was all a good day” he said.

Events Coordinator at the BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) Cindy Rosan-Jones said the event was great for attracting tourists to the territory.

“I thought it was a great weekend for tourism. We had a lot of visitors come over for the horse race and the entire festival weekend,” she said.

The BVITB welcomed residents and visitors alike with ‘welcome drinks’, and according to Rosan-Jones, that was in an effort to “help create that whole festive season”.

“Overall, I think the weekend was good,” she added.

Well-known taxi operator Julio Sam Henry was also pleased with the parade.

“I was satisfied, I only went for the food and the entertainment, and I thought it was ok. There is room for improvement in terms of starting on time, a little bit more interest, better organisation but I think people turned it into a festivity. So it was fun.”

Other residents said they took the opportunity to visit The Baths before patronising the parade later that day.

“It was ok. Comparing to other times, it could have been a little better, but we still have to give thanks that we have this going on after Irma,” said one woman who only gave her name as Lerlie.

In addition to the parade, The Secret Band had patrons dancing to their music in what could be described as a small ‘wet fete’.

Looking at these mean spirited complaining comments it’s easy to see why BVI has the slowest recovery in the Caribbean. Plenty of attitudes and complaint but NO IDEAS OR EFFORT OF THEIR OWN SMH STRUPES.

FUNGI MUSIC? CULTURAL HERITAGE? WHY DONT YOU MAKE YOUR OWN AT THE PARADE OR PARTIES INSTEAD OF CRYING ABOUT IT?

BECAUSE YOU ENJOY WHINING, IT IS EASIER FOR YOU

I was wondering the same thing about bodyguard. Are we follow fashioning. The Governor who is head of state using our local police. Mr premier something don’t add up, who is behind all this? His bodyguards don’t behave too much decorum either. You might be a conventional government but before line in someone pocket please, please check yourself.
