Pickering: Rankin launched nuclear bomb in HOA recall

Former Deputy Premier Dr Kedrick Pickering has suggested that there is much more than meets the eye after Governor John Rankin moved to recall the House of Assembly (HOA) last Friday.

In recalling the HOA, Governor Rankin argued in part, that he was attempting to ensure the upcoming general elections are free and fair and not open to challenge before the courts. This was after an Auditor General’s report revealed that some 688 persons were granted Belongership status without first applying for Residency status as the law requires.

But Dr Pickering questioned the real reasons behind the HOA recall while speaking at a National Democratic Party (NDP) rally in the Eighth District on Saturday.

“The House is being recalled on Monday. It is a drastic step. What is going on behind the scenes? What did the governor tell the premier that we do not know? Why did the governor take out the nuclear bomb out of his pocket and say I will drop this bomb if you don’t do something that I told you to do?”

He further argued that in order for such a drastic step to be taken, the governor must have told the premier several days or weeks ago that this situation has to be remedied. “So don’t let nobody come now being Pontius Pilate. ‘Oh we’ve made mistakes, we’re so sorry’,” Dr Pickering said.

He insisted that the territory is facing extraordinary circumstances, and suggested this may also be the reason the House is being recalled. “It begs the question, how many other major mistakes are sitting there that we may not have heard about as yet?” Dr Pickering asked.

The former lawmaker urged that this was the reason he has been imploring residents to consider that the BVI’s relationship with the United Kingdom matters. “Those of us who think that it is a joke better wake up. Direct rule is a dangerous pathway for this country to follow,” he argued. “And you must elect people who are capable of running this country, people who have the knowledge and experience to do what is right for this country.”

Dr Pickering dismissed suggestions that he had 20 years in elected office to fix the country’s problems but didn’t do so. “Don’t mind all them who talking about, ‘I had 20 years and blah blah blah’. That 20 years is what you need right now,” he stated. “You need that knowledge and experience…. You don’t have to ask if Dr Pickering could walk into Cabinet on the 25th [of April] and do what is right. You don’t have to ask that because I’ve demonstrated I can do it.”

Like I have said to many people – this is a f-ing Reality Show. Couldn’t even make half this $hit up!

It is all of us that have made this happen – (1) Us, the people for turning a blind eye to the total incompetence and selfishness of the leaders around us. (2) For all the appointed Governors that have sat by in Cabinet and let all this happen, and knowing this day would come. (3) For the elected officials over the last few decades that have drained and brought this country to its knees, when we had so many opportunities to be a shining example of what could have been.

All of us are accountable – while I as a citizen accept blame, it is the elected officials and the Governors that I hold deep a deep seeded animosity towards. This group is whom we looked to for the present, and future of our Country. Even up to today, with the odd (and unproductive) recall of the HOA, I still believe deep in my heart that these two groups (those we elected, and Governor) are the blind leading the blind, while taking us all over the proverbial cliff!

I’m sincerely disgusted! Deep in my soul I have this sinking feeling that no matter who leads us into the future, nothing will change!

All happen is both the last Governor and the present one were against so many Caribbean people getting residency and belongers. They did not mind when the NDP illegally did it for 80 wealthy status quo upper class folks and ignored so many of the applications in for years for the Caribbean people. BVI WAKE UP!!!

Kedrick, we know you are an Uncle Tom. Also, to anyone with sense can see the Governor is misusing his powers to interfere with the outcomes of the elections with this latest move as he has several plots in one to help who he wants to win the elections (The ones running & their family & close friends who met with him & the last Governor at nights fighting for power):
    1) Make it seem as if the Government did something wrong again and he is the knight in shining armor to sweep in & save the day & good governance & save shame from the last Governor.
    2) Threaten to take off 700 names off the voters list so they do not get to vote for who he does not want in power.
    3) Open back the House to seem as if he wants to save the 700 names on the voters list but while doing so, he gets more mischief done against the government by getting the pre-authored auditor general report on the VIP fast track for belongers only and not the NDP one in 2019 before the last elections for only a few rich white friends.
    4) Divide the country further with locals verses expats especially those from the Caribbean.
    5) Get to now pressure Immigration more to immediately approve his huge number of upper class Uk white friends.
    6) Put this Attorney General against the last Attorney General where both advised differently.
    7) Give the opponents and the people more fuel against the VIP through malicious intent by the Governor and Auditor General but make it seem as if their hands are clean and just doing their job and preserving good governance.
Talk about another well-organized plot once again disguised as preserving good governance. Time alone will deal with these plots as he has plenty more to come because that is all he and his gang plans all day.

At Facts… your point at #5 is inaccurate. Immigration does not, does not approve any status in regards to Residence and Belonger.Cabibet does that. And they can undo it also. Facts

  7. Tell them Doc says:

I am not causing no confusion leading up to the elections if there be one but it is clear that Marlon can not be premier. We need the Doc to lead us after the elections and take the fight to Britain on our behalf. Marlon is wholly incapable of of leading us anywhere. I totally understand that for the appearance of unity we stand behind him. But he must be fully aware that without the Doc, Myron and to some extent Lorna on board this election would have been the slow man own on a platter.

All this time leading up to election Marlon and the 2nd praising what a fine job slowman doing. All the while slowman building his team. Well slow man ring the bell Marlon and the 2nd can’t find a team. Would someone without delay pi$$ in my pocket, we we on me, take that tool out of your pants and spray the hell out of me and convince me that it is raining. If you can’t convince school boy then let it rain on Marlon and he will lick his lips and say salty rain.

We not only have to cut the head of the snake we want a PREMIER and it is not Marlon. So please help us give the ndp an overwhelming majority and give another useless one in the 8th a chance to fail. I am hoping nonetheless that the elections be postponed and the Govenator will take over. Whenever you attempt to press dislike on this post it is because you want to pi$$ on Marlon.

You are real lost and confused.

S**wande may have done certain things well in his tenure due to the fact it was a Unity Govt.

The Governor and the UK Prime Minister got 2 proposals one from VIP and one from Opposition, led by Marlon. The opposition proposal is what was accepted. Unity govt was formed.

S**wande is not shining on his own. Tell me what he did as time as Min. of Edu. vs Myron tenure. Tell me what he did as d7 rep for 4 years vs KP first 4 years.

I am ok with Sowande but disappointed in Natalio.

  8. One fact says:

for sure is that this old man will not be joining any HOA on 25 April. On 25 April he may be:

    1) Walking into a lawyer’s office to commence an action against the BVI government for election fraud after his humiliating loss in the polls.

    2) Wandering around East End when polling day is cancelled later this week.

    3) Drowning his sorrows in an East End bar.

    4) Hospitalized for 2, 3 or both of the above.

When I think of the East and politics its Dr Pickering. Any all problems in the East begins with Dr. Pickering. He was the Deputy Premier 3 times and he couldn’t get anything done for his district. You couldn’t find one district now you want to fix the BVI. You are a nice guy but a terrible politician. You were a yes man for your Premier and you will be so again if elected. You made one honorable decision by leaving the NDP and you right back with them again.

One should be living in the BVI 25 years minimum before they are awarded Belongers status. The BVI is to small and Virgin Islanders are already in the minority.

  16. Oh please says:

Yall people sickening, he did more for his district and this country on the opposition and as a back bencher than some persons have done as ministers. The same way you took the time to research his speech go research his record, because what you are saying is nonsense.
