PLM promises candidate in every district for upcoming election
The newly formed People’s Leadership Movement (PLM) intends to field a candidate in every electoral district at the next general election, with party leader Mark Vanterpool declaring that the group is preparing for the polls regardless of when they are called.
“We are very confident that we’ll have a full slate come election time,” Vanterpool said. “If it’s 13 seats, we’ll have a full slate. If it’s 15 seats, we’ll have a full slate,” Vanterpool said in an interview with ZBVI radio.
He also noted ongoing national discussions about the possibility of adding two more At-Large seats, adding that the PLM is well prepared for different scenarios.
“If the elections are called in the next 90 days, we’ll have a full slate. If the elections are called later on, we’ll have a full slate,” he added.
According to Vanterpool, the party has spent the past several months quietly meeting with prospective candidates and supporters as it builds its organisation ahead of the election.
“And we’re going to continue to build the group. So we’ll have a candidate in every district,” he said.
Vanterpool indicated that the party will be releasing the names of some candidates within the next two months, with additional candidates to be unveiled afterwards. He described the prospective slate as a “very nice group of candidates” who are prepared to seek the support of voters across the territory.
The PLM’s emergence is expected to further shake up an already fragmented political landscape, with the governing Virgin Islands Party and opposition National Democratic Party also preparing for elections. There has also been heightened speculation about whether established political figures could eventually join Vanterpool’s movement as parties position themselves for the next national vote.
“It looks very good for us right now,” Vanterpool said.

Excellent news! I am looking forward to seeing who the candidates will be! The people have spoken and you have listened. This is a sign of good things to come. No single man party. Bring a full slate. This means you are serious about fixing the country because it simply cannot be fixed by one man alone. It takes an entire government with common goals, values and competence! Please be very thoughtful in the candidate selection. This is the difference between a clean sweep and a terrible defeat. Hope! There is hope!
