Police deny fatal crash rumour | One injured in East End collision

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has debunked social media rumours of a fatal hit-and-run and said a two-vehicle crash in East End this weekend left one person with non-life-threatening injuries.

The injured person was taken to Dr Orlando Smith Hospital, and a second person suspected of driving under the influence was also taken to the hospital for assessment, the force said in a statement.

“Contrary to the false reports, this was not a fatal accident,” the RVIPF said.

Police said the crash happened at about 8:30 pm on September 27 and that investigators are probing the circumstances.

“The RVIPF wishes to state unequivocally that there were no fatal hit-and-run accidents anywhere in the territory overnight. The information being circulated to the contrary is completely false,” the RVIPF insisted.

The force urged residents to avoid sharing unverified claims. “Spreading unconfirmed reports can cause unnecessary alarm and distress within our community,” the RVIPF explained.

It added that “Official updates and verified information from the RVIPF are always available through our official press releases and verified social media accounts,” the RVIPF said.

Police also reported a separate incident on Sunday near the Hodges Creek “Junk Yard” area, which happened just before midday, where a woman was injured and taken to hospital. Officers briefly diverted traffic via Ridge Road while the scene was cleared.

    Perhaps it’s time to:
    1) Limit the type, size and number of vehicles on the roads of Tortola
    OR
    2) Rebuild and repair all the paved roads on Tortola
    of BOTH!
