Police investigating 1am shooting in Fort Hill | Spent shells recovered

Not the actual scene from this morning’s shooting.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is investigating a shooting that happened on Tortola during the early-morning hours of Thursday, May 27.

The RVIPF’s Information Unit told our news centre that police received reports of a shooting in Fort Hill around 1:30 am.

After responding to the report, an unspecified number of “spent shells were recovered at the scene”.

“No injuries were reported,” the police told our news centre.

This incident is one of multiple shootings reported in the territory in recent times. Sixty-seven-year-old Catherine Pickering is a victim of one of those shootings; having been killed from gunshot wounds to the head and chest last month.

Like another victim Earl ‘Bob’ Hodge who was shot and killed two months earlier, the police are treating Pickering’s death as a murder.

What is amazing is these news sites just go ahead and let this news die, and never come back around to follow up or update the public.
Nothing more on Bob Hodge, nothing more on Ms. Pickering, other shootings, the scene at West End, the woman found beaten and rotting in the bush. All of this forgotten – it is the responsibility of the media to keep all these lost stories front and center in the public until answers are given, and those responsible held accountable!

In fact, I can think of very few news stories that are followed up with in any capacity by the media here!

Yes, the media should help to keep the spotlight on the many unsolved murders, but the LEADER of the territory should also hold responsibility and so, should the RVIPF. They took off with the west end BRUTAL double murder(Yes! I said brutal, trust me none of us want our child to be gunned down like that) But, the same media that took off with the story and was quick to get pics of victims & the vehicle became SILENT last year November on the anniversary of that double murder and the list goes on…when last have we heard about Lovell’s case? HOW DID WE BECOME SUCH A HEARTLESS SOCIETY? I weep for my beautiful homeland.

@Pandora.. There is complacency in follow up reports and reporting. Leave them alone, they will come home wagging their tails behind them.

Bvi people. You don’t let people drive you off a cliff in your car, do you? I love your land. Your leaders are pathetic, though. You let them take you, your taxes, your rights, and your kids future off a cliff, in a slow motion car wreck. No one owns you. Bvi manipulated by bad people, but law of land is etched in stone. Oldest common law on earth. Uk. Use it. And stop letting elected leaders lose your $ like water into sand while running mouths on “plans” a 10 yr old in London would laugh at. Take their money back. Your $400m gov budget for 25k ppl each year-what you have to show for that scratch?
